To think subscription boxes are a swizz?

Loads of my friends seem to be signing up for subscription boxes like Birch Box lately where you basically get a box containing five mystery products a month for a fee of about £10. Apparently it ranges from make up, to skincare, hair products, creams and bath gels. You don't know what you're going to get so it's all a surprise.

On one hand I like the idea of a little treat each month and the chance to try new products. But I can't help but think it could be a giant waste of money if you end up with products you don't like or ones that are very cheap (a soap or bog standard shampoo for example). What are people's thoughts? Are they worth the money?

Ive been doing one for about 2 years..its called Degusta box and you get a variety of food items. Its £12.99 per month but the value of the products is always at least £20. Its usually new products that have hit the market and can vary from alcohol, pasta, chocolate, breads, cooking sauce, crisps ..just really random. I think its worth it and always love the element of surprise. Sometimes theres stuff i dont like, if there is, i just bring it to work and theres always someone who will gladly take it. Overall though, im happy with it

I've had brief subscriptions to:
Spotlight Stationery - if I could afford it, I'd carry on with this one. LOVELY themed stationery boxes every month. I still re-buy the notebooks I got in my first box because they are the best ever.

Papergang - it was fun but I found I only used a small proportion of the contents.

Boxcitement - this was really fun for several months and then it started to feel a little bit repetitive, but I had a lot of things I loved from them.

Both Boxcitement and Papergang design all their products so they are exclusive to the box. And all of these come in boxes that fit through a standard letterbox, so you never have to worry about delivery.

😂

Someone ought to set up an ‘Expensive Crock of Shit’ company and sell ironic product. I bet they’d get subscribers...
