We are just coming to the end of a new kitchen project. Was meant to be 3-6 weeks, was 10, all sorts of shenanigans along the way. Whole project has cost 25k. We have 20% left to pay to the main contractor, when we sign of. At the snagging stage. Earlier today I knocked one of the plinths and it came away, so not fixed properly- and I looked underneath the cabinet. It's Fucking filthy under there. The whole project involved removing a wall, replastering the lot and a new floor, so in theory the kitchen fit should have been into a 'clean' room. The builders made a ton of dust and debris, and then just put the cabinets and appliances on top of it. I'm horrified. It would have taken 10 mins to sweep and sponge, but no! They didn't even pick up random shit they dropped. Now to clean underneath... I don't know how you'd even get proper access, and although the rest of the kitchen is clean I know there's just grub waiting to creep out. Am I being precious?? What on earth can we do about it- I can't imagine removing the whole lot to clean it out? Is this normal or is the builder an absolute cheeky fucker?? Here are some photos of the grub...

We had a whole house refit after a house fire at the end of 2016. New walls, ceilings in some of the rooms, new kitchen and bathroom etc. We were allocated a building firm via the insurance company who overall were half decent but from all the work needing done they fitted the kitchen first and then laid the kitchen flooring. We had to actually ask them to cover it all up to prevent it being broken and scratched. Then followed 3 months of the kitchen being used as a starting point for all the different trades and me crossing my fingers that they wouldn’t destroy it in the process. I think because they do these things day in and day out that standards slip without them really being aware.

@Wexone he sounds like a dream.

For everything we've ever done before it's been three quotes and try and go as expensive as we can possibly afford because 100% you get what you pay for.

Problem is, Ikea have only one partner for this stuff, like it or lump it and all the research says use their guys because the kitchens have no service gap. So we went with their fitters, who we met, got comfortable with (most expensive of the three quotes we had BUT all guaranteed via Ikea, so sounded like it might be worth it down the line).

Then one day before scheduled start I am told it's a different team. Assume still Ikea partners. Find out when random man calls me on scheduled start date to tell me he can't make that date that in fact, he has been last minute subcontracted in to the job by Ikea partner. Is completely independent builder who they chuck work to when they are over subscribed. Had I found him directly he would have quoted around 10% less for the works and given me a totally different schedule. So I'm paying over the odds to someone I met on the day after he was due to start, and no proper oversight from Ikea's partner. and half his guys have holiday booked and the other half are functioning alcoholics!

Love it.
