To complain to Tesco about the amount of bags they use?

Usually shop in store but I am without a car this week and have had to do my, I think 3rd, online shop.

I spent about £60.00 and yet again received an absolute mountain of bags. I usually fit my weekly shop into about 4 bags. Tonights shop came in 13 bags. There was literally one thing in some of them. One bag for a pack of anti bac wipes, another for a bag of cat food.

AIBU to complain? Aren't we supposed to be reducing the amount of plastic we use? Maybe I'm just being naive about the process for packing these things but surely this is ridiculous in the current climate? A whole bag for one thing?!

It’s going to take ages to unpack big orders item by item. I don’t have bags for small orders but do for larger ones. I always use the bags for other things too.

StoorieHoose · 09/08/2019 07:01

I have those collapsible boxes ready at the door when my delivery arrives - move stuff out of their boxes into my boxes and I take them into the kitchen and boxes go back in the cupboard til the next week.

LOL at complaining about plastic bags while using anti bac wipes as well as 3 deliveries in one week!

Just ask for bagless delivery.

TrashPanda · 09/08/2019 07:16

They definitely do pick in store around here but it isn't one picker doing one person's whole shop I don't think. There will be x number of orders and different pickers get different sections or products. So they aren't packing your whole shop, the cat food and anti bac wipes may have been picked by different people.

I've not had bags for my delivery in years although you do still get some for meat or certain cleaning stuff. I'm in a first floor flat with a lift, they wheel the trolley into my kitchen, I empty the trays onto the worktops/floor and then put it away after they have gone.

Lucafritz · 09/08/2019 07:43

Tumbleweed101 just empty the crate out onto the hallway floor or kitchen how wet do you have to be to not understand that concept Hmm a delivery driver isn't going the stand there for half an hour while you simper and faff removing one item at a time to put away Biscuit if you can't handle simple tasks like this maybe moving home to mummy and daddy and having them do it for you would be best.

I tick the no bags box but still got seven bags last night. I do give them back, but I’d rather not get them in the first place.

As it happens, I had no meat or fish, it was mostly bags for different types of fruit and veg.

SunflowerKitty · 09/08/2019 07:57

I always chose bagless for my Tesco shop and they still pack things in bags. Things like one red pepper...packed separately in a bag by itself. And then another bag for a single courgette. There doesn't see any logic to it.

I look forward to seeing what happens on 19th August!

We are NW London it’s been quite a while

PinaC · 09/08/2019 19:27

My dc think it’s brilliant though as they can see all the treats 🤣

MammaMia19 · 09/08/2019 19:28

Yabu just tick the no bag box and save 40p

LadyLucilleLocket · 11/08/2019 13:25

@BagsBagsandMoreBags You have been able to select no bags for years at the end of your online order. Have you not seen this where you check out?

LadyLucilleLocket · 11/08/2019 13:26

Swap to Ocado! They include bags but for everyone you send back to them next time, even from other shops, you get 5p per bag off your shop.

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 11/08/2019 13:57

In Ireland Tesco delivery has always been bagless and we get small paper bags for fruit and veg but everything else like cleaning products just come in a crate. I think the big difference is the Tesco delivery person here will help you unpack in the kitchen or wherever you want so they don’t just dump the crates and watch you unpack.

FAQs · 11/08/2019 14:00

YABU because you opted to have bags and then complained. There is a clear option for you to choose at check out.

Aprillygirl · 11/08/2019 15:09

They went totally bagless last a few weeks ago where I live. Before that I mostly chose to go bagless. Why couldn't you have done that OP? Also it's not very environmentally friendly to have 3 food shop deliveries in one week!

SocksAreMadeToBeOdd · 11/08/2019 19:55

I don't think OP meant she had three in one week 😂 I took it to mean it was her 3rd ever online shop.

And you can select bagless at the checkout but I wouldn't expect them to send 13 if I didn't either!
