To cancel SCS settee order due to their dishonesty

I ordered a new settee almost 8 weeks ago. Paid a deposit and set up a finance agreement for the last few hundred pounds (just for the benefit of my credit score as I have no other credit). Had my confirmation email through which had the correct price and 6 - 8 weeks delivery on.

Once my credit agreement stuff came through, I noticed that the figures were wrong. On investigation it turns out that a “fabric care kit” that I hadn’t ordered, or indeed been offered had been added to my order. It turns out that the staff are on an incentive scheme for all fabric care kits that they sell so I’m 99% sure this was added dishonestly rather than by mistake.

To add to the above apparently the lead time that I was given was wrong and it should have been 12 - 16 weeks Hmm

Would I be unreasonable to tell them to forget it and refund me the deposit? I really am not happy dealing with such a dishonest company.

YANBU. I would think that was dishonest too.

Depends how quickly you need the sofa. You've already waited 8 weeks, if you order from elsewhere are you able to wait another 8 weeks? If not then I'd keep the order but put in a complaint about the dishonesty (although I presume they'll just say it was a mistake). No point cutting off your nose to spite your face. On the other hand, if you are happy to wait or can find somewhere to deliver quicker then go for it.

I am glad I decided against ordering from them now

I think scs is the one we walked into and a sales guy jumped on me asking me what do I want to pay weekly. The assumption that the weekly price was dictating what I wanted and that I needed credit meant I walked straight out again. I bought mine from Paul Simon in the end

Youseethethingis · 08/08/2019 11:58

I used to work in furniture sales - not SCS but they are all the same - and the method for selling add ons is generally to quietly add them on to the order without permission and as long as the customer agrees to the bottom line (most people won’t notice its £50 per month instead of £48 for example) then it’s considered good sales practice.
This is why I left. I’m not dishonest enough.

NURNBU,cancell your order and go to a decent company.

BigBadBarryatemyboat · 08/08/2019 12:29

Check your paperwork, usually the finance is provided by a creditor e.g. Creation Finance. If so then (I don't think) cancelling the sofa will cancel the finance side of the transaction.

Fcukthisshit · 08/08/2019 12:49

@Youseethethingis that’s exactly what they did! It’s only because I noticed that there was a few pounds difference in the payments that I checked it. I bet loads of people don’t even check and they get away with it.

I’m half tempted to report them to trading standards although I guess they will go down the “it was just a mistake” route.

I doubt you can cancel after 8 weeks. The finance is nothing to do with scs now

HotChocolateLover · 08/08/2019 12:53

I’d be fuming too. However, if you’re doing it for your credit score then definitely don’t cancel unless you will be buying in cash or on a credit card next time. Otherwise you’ll have to have another hard credit search and it won’t look good on your file. I would go with a strongly worded complaint letter and you may even get some money back and get to keep the fabric care kit. I know you didn’t want it but you can laugh at them for having to give it away 😂
