I'm a regular poster but have name changed as photos could be outing. I know this isn't the place but posting for (hopeful) traffic.

DS had his 1 year jabs on Monday, he had a bath tonight and the plasters came off. Where he was vaccinated is really swollen and sore looking on one arm, all of the previous vaccinations never looked like this. Hence, I'm now worrying if this is normal?----

Sorry for blurry photos, trying to get a photo of a toddlers arm is difficult! Please reassure me I'm being a completely unreasonable, paranoid FTM.

I vaguely remember having a bit of a swelling after one of my jabs when I was child. It just went away. I'm not sure anyone can really help on here though...why don't you give NHS direct a call for reassurance. I'm sure it'll be fine though. x

MsHopey · 07/08/2019 19:13

My DS had massive swellings that stayed for months in his first 3 sets if jabs. They've gone now, hes 2. But I was told it's fairly common.
DS2 didn't have any swellings.

moreismore · 07/08/2019 19:15

No swelling like that with either of my DC. It may well be ‘normal’ but I would have it checked all the same.

AnAC12UCOinanOCG · 07/08/2019 19:16

No advice but he has the cutest hair.

lulabaloo · 07/08/2019 19:17

My little 1 had hers few months ago and hers swelled like that, nurse told me at the time if it happens it is normal.

Shelley54 · 07/08/2019 19:44

Could it actually be a reaction to the plaster itself? It doesn’t seem to be just on the puncture wound.

MustardScreams · 07/08/2019 19:45

It looks more like he’s allergic to the plaster than anything.

user1480880826 · 07/08/2019 19:45

Totally normal. It doesn’t happen to all kids and it depends on the vaccination but it’s very common. Lots of my friends kids reacted exactly like this after the 1 year vaccinations.

nopeandnope · 07/08/2019 20:17

Thank you all, I feel reassured. I'm not going to worry, his temperature is fine and he's been his usual self today. Will just keep an eye.

Interesting thought about allergy to plasters, I've never had to use one at home yet, so that could be it.

Looks like he is allergic to plasters. Interestingly dd had the same (hers was worst and blistered very badly) after one set of injections (I think the 3rd lot at 16 weeks). Prior to this she was fine with them. We found fabric plasters ok, it was just the plasticky ones (sorry don’t know the official term!)

Hmmmbop · 07/08/2019 20:21

Normal. "Red, hard and hot to touch" is what our practice nurse always trots out. They are also often under the weather (temp and viral type symptoms, non-specific but blanching rash) off and on for up to 6 weeks after the 12month injections.

Forosu · 07/08/2019 20:21

My son who had his 1 year old vaccinations a couple of months ago developed a huge bruise. It was really swollen and red for days. So it could be bruising. I’m guessing your giving paracetamol for the vaccination anyway so I wouldn’t worry to much. But I think with babies I would always go to the gp just for that reassurance.

Phoenix76 · 07/08/2019 23:29

I was also going to suggest plasters purely because my dd had the same.

TwistyTop · 08/08/2019 16:26

If he seems well in himself then it's probably nothing to worry about, but if you're unsure it does no harm to call 111 or ask your GP.
