C Section overhang

I had a EMCS to get my beautiful DD out safely 7 days ago after my waters broke 48hrs previously but labour wasn't progressing despite lots of intervention.
I'm grateful for the care I received and that me and DD are both safe and well, but my stomach looks awful! I really liked my stomach pre-pregnancy, now there is a clear shelf or overhang above the scar Sad I know it's very early days and my uterus is still shrinking, but is there any chance this will heal nicely? I don't need a flat stomach just as well, but I'd hate to be insecure about the one bit of my body I quite liked.

It will shrink substantially over the coming weeks. You'll have to wait at least twelve months before any reasonable decision can be made regarding further intervention.

Please don't worry about it. If you do find that it leaves an overhang, it's easily corrected with some cosmetic surgery.

Congrats on your little one.

Its 7 days sweetheart. Give it time and dont worry about all that nonsense for now. Enjoy your newborn x

My tummy is still changing two years on - it takes ages.

It's only been 7 days, don't worry about your body now! Enjoy your baby Smile I had an emergency c-section 11 years ago and it's never gone away. It flattens a little and reduced but from speaking to older women theirs has never completely gone either. Cosmetic surgery is a little drastic, it's not glaringly obvious.

I have similar and did after my first. It's like all the fat from below the scar has been sewn above it. Didn't get rid of it with first but got pregnant again quite quickly (I'm old). I'm now 11 weeks pp and it is much better than it was last time already (I think it's made worse by having quite severe diastasis recti) but I think it may take a miracle to get rid of it altogether.

I think what has made a difference this time is I used pp support garments - primarily from belly bandit. Some products are aimed specifically at post c section. I also found these helped with lower back pain and weakness and helped me to be up and about sooner - which helps a little with the weight loss.

I stopped wearing those around 10 weeks (didn't need them for my back, not sure they were helping anymore). I'm now trying to do a lot of the core workouts recommended by my physio for DR and having a bash at kegel exercises which apparently might help.

However, since I'm probably done with pregnancy now, I'm thinking if this (and a good bash at dieting after I finish breastfeeding) don't work I'll go for plastic surgery.

Good luck - I hope it comes right for you.

(but I wouldn't even worry about looking at it for another 2-3 weeks - you'll get a better idea of it going down has been my experience).
