I bought these yesterday, thinking the middle date was an 8, as in August, I ate contents (falafels) and now my partner points out it's a 6, as in June as he puts them in the bin.

Fuck sake - I can't tell now I've looked at it again...:tell me it's an 8 Mumsnet

They tasted fine!!

Looks like a 6 to me. An 8 would be more curved at the top I think.

PixiKitKat · 06/08/2019 20:50

It deffo looks like a 6, the curve doesn't match the 8 that's underneath it

HalfManHalfLabrador · 06/08/2019 20:51

Definitely a 6

BettysLeftTentacle · 06/08/2019 20:51

It’s a 6 but they’d probably be fine anyway.

WeShouldOpenABar · 06/08/2019 20:52

6 but chickpeas aren't going to taste off and poison you that quickly

SamBeckett · 06/08/2019 20:52

I think its a 6 too but what the hell as long as they looked smelt and tasted ok you will be fine

Sparklingbrook · 06/08/2019 20:53

Are they a chilled product?

I think it's quite unlikely (but not impossible) that something fresh bought yesterday would have a June date.

Take the receipt and packaging back to the shop and get them to check.

Soubriquet · 06/08/2019 20:53

It’s a 6...but I would have still eaten them if they looked and smelled fine.

BreconBeBuggered · 06/08/2019 20:54

It's a 6 - compare it with the 8 underneath. Where did you buy it?

Polly99 · 06/08/2019 20:54

It’s a 6, but they’re falafels. There’s nothing in them that festers.

Hahaha88 · 06/08/2019 21:06

Going against the grain here, I think it's an 8 that's not printed properly. Especially as the 19 looks like 17 for the same reason, and I'm sure they aren't two years out of dste!

iamadramallama · 06/08/2019 21:11

Bought from Sainsburys

I will take them back tomorrow (if I'm not poorly!)

The printing is pretty unclear - teach me to wear my glasses when shopping Confused

I think it's an 8. I'd be amazed if something that out of date would be hanging around.

ListenLinda · 06/08/2019 21:16

If that is actually the correct use by date, i’d be going back to the store pronto!

Sorry but There’s no mistaking that’s a 6.
I’m surprised Sainsbury’s had things on sale nye on 2 months out of date. I’d let them know, tbh. It could be meat next time

TheFridgeRaider · 06/08/2019 21:23

I would think it's messed up 8 because 6 tends to be exactly like 9 just other way around.

I also can't believe anything falafelly would stay on a shelf for over 2 months😁

violeticecream · 06/08/2019 21:26

I think it's an eight. I would be really shocked if it was on the shelves from June.

iamadramallama · 06/08/2019 21:32

I'm liking the last two replies Smile that's what I've been thinking-what the hell would a June product be doing on the shelf?!? These falafels generally only have about a 10 day life on anyway so to be so out of date is pretty shit of Sainsburys if they are

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/08/2019 21:32

I think badly printed 8 too. You’d hope sainsury’s Would have noticed if those had been in the fridge for 2 months.

MrsKittyFane1 · 06/08/2019 21:35

It's an 8 with a bit missing. Compare it to the 8 below it. Same shape.

Nicolastuffedone · 06/08/2019 21:37

It’s definitely a 6. It’s different from the 8 printed below

TakeMeToYourLiar · 06/08/2019 21:38

I would also complain to them about shoddy lot code printing. It’s a legal requirement and this is not ok

MrsKittyFane1 · 06/08/2019 21:43

See 6 and 8 on this
