Re-posting here for traffic!

Has anyone here ever missed two (or any number of) periods, had only negative tests, and was actually pregnant?

I'm not trying to focus on any perceived symptoms I have had as I know you can't rely on them.

Going crazy here. Really overdue a smear test as well and of course they can't as I technically could be pregnant due to the missed periods.

Anyone? :)

I had a smear years ago when pregnant, has that changed?

NoBaggyPants · 06/08/2019 18:27

Has the GP said you can't have a smear? Have you seen the GP?

Nabana · 06/08/2019 18:36

I had a nurse, she asked when my last period was, I said June 1st and she said she can't do it yet just in case I'm pregnant. I told her about the negative tests and she mentioned a friend of hers never had one positive test any time in her pregnancy. I don't mind at all, would rather postpone smear if there was even the smallest risk to the pregnancy, but I'm just getting so impatient waiting to find out if and when af will come or if I'm really pg or if it's something else.

Bumping if not for comments then at least for votes. YABU - no and YANBU - yes. :)

Just ask your gp for a blood test.

apostropheuse · 06/08/2019 19:28

I had smears during every one of my 4 pregnancies (all adults now, to be fair). Has that changed now?

BeanBag7 · 06/08/2019 19:31

NHS UK "You will not usually need to have cervical screening if you're pregnant, or could be pregnant, until at least 12 weeks after you've given birth. This is because pregnancy can make it harder to get clear results."

BeanBag7 · 06/08/2019 19:33

If your last period was 1st June you'd be 9 weeks or so, so long enough to have a scan or blood test to check if you're pregnant. If there's a chance you're pregnant have you spoken to a midwife about possibly having a scan?

PinkDaffodil2 · 06/08/2019 19:39

There isn’t a risk to the pregnancy with a smear, just a risk of the sample not being sufficient - however if a pregnancy is so early that your urianry HCG is undetectable it won’t affect your test so the nurses reasoning isn’t quite straight.
Try another batch of tests and if you don’t have a period for 3 months go see your GP to exclude other causes.

apostropheuse · 06/08/2019 19:42

Beanbag7 that makes sense. I did at one point have anbormal cells when I had a smear during pregnancy and they just repeated it after I gave birth. All was normal then. It seems sensible to have changed routine tests in the last few decades Grin

CoffeeRunner · 06/08/2019 19:42

I had persistent negative home tests with DS1 - although that was 22 years ago!

The Dr sent a urine sample to the hospital & that came back positive.

fleshmarketclose · 06/08/2019 19:49

Dd had two negative tests a week apart (because of a swollen belly) and no missed periods and found out she was 27 weeks pregnant when she went to GP to discuss her big belly.

8misskitty8 · 06/08/2019 19:50

SIL missed several periods and had negatives tests. When she eventually got a positive one she got a scan done which showed she was almost 17 weeks pregnant.

So it is possible op but you could ask for a blood test to check so you can get your smear.
