I'm in my early 60s and about 3 stone overweight. I am gradually losing weight but, more importantly, feel a lot better about myself.
The 1st big help was to join Overeaters anonymous, which is helping me control my binge eating.
The 2nd was to take up cycling. I love it. Very quickly I've gone from doing 10 miles to doing a 65 miles run out in 2 days. and I can't wait to do the next one. It makes me feel so much more positive about myself.

I’m in my late 40s and was valiantly overweight and accepting of my size, as I’ve been fat most of my life. However, some early signs of health problems were starting to show and my doctor recommended I address this through lifestyle before going down the path of medication. I’ve been doing Rebelfit for a couple of years and also this year read The Obesity Code. I’ve lost 14kg this year, and 20kg since that discussion with my GP, through eating moderately low carb (avoiding sugar, bread, potatoes, rice) and eating as much fresh unprocessed food as possible, also some of the week I do 16:8. I do the Rebelfit kettlebell workouts 3 x a week and take a long walk every day. It’s taken a while to work up to this and yet somehow it has become a way of life and not onerous.

My tips: start slow and make good swaps in your diet. I’ve swapped breakfast toast for Skyr and berries, regular potatoes for sweet potatoes and spaghetti for courgette noodles. Also white wine 🍷 instead of beer 🍺 Grin. You still have to enjoy your food, and enjoy the odd slice of birthday cake without guilt!
Plan your workouts into your day like any other appointment. It works for me to do it first thing so I don’t spend the day putting it off. Also, keep a diary so you can really see your progress.
Have non-food rewards for every little victory. I have a lovely shower gel I only permit myself to use after a workout.
Don’t overdo exercise at first. Rest days are the days when your body repairs itself and gets fitter. Plus, if you’re injured, you won’t be a able to work out and you’ll probably end up comfort eating.

Hope some of this helps!

I’ve lost 4 stone 10lb this year with Slimming world. Gone from a size 18 to a 10/12. Started swimming 2/3 times a week. SlimmingWorld gets criticised on here but I’ve found it to be healthy and very doable. I don’t eat many carbs mainly protein, fruit, veg and dairy. I enjoy going to the group.

I’m mid 40s and have been big for years.

There are some very inspiring stories on here

I'm happy to be outed. For those who haven't seen them before, here are my pics.

I was 39 in the 'before' pic (15 stones) and 50 in the 'after' (9 stones)

I went to WeightWatchers and hit the gym. No fad diet or anything. I just ate a bit less. And lifted a bit more.

I'm a very ordinary person with the same frailties as everyone else.

You can do this. Trust me Smile

NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace · 08/08/2019 21:17

@WhatALump

You look simply amazing Smile

@raindropsonwindows

Yes, I can understand the window for exercise is not all that wide open for those of you with busy lives.

I will have to admit to being single with no children, so that does make it easier Blush

Before: BMI 38
After: BMI 22

I've maintained for a few years now, and just found a new addiction for running purely thanks to a thread on here I started a few months ago (I was encouraged to try Parkrun and it's changing my life!).

Take things one day at a time, OP. Small goals. Small, permanent changes. Think health and fitness, not calories and slimness. Find new healthy, whole foods you love, try exercises until you find something you genuinely enjoy.

It does take time, but each day counts, each good decision matters, celebrate the good days and forgive yourself the not-so-good days.

You can do it, you really, really can. Deep down, I honestly never thought I'd actually lose my weight, it was such a part of me and my personality. I'd been obese all my life after several traumas.

Every day, I'm still surprised! If I can do it, so can you. Do it for you.

@NiceLegsShameAboutTheFace thank you!

hellenbackagen · 08/08/2019 22:35

I feel so lazy - I've really only got a stone to lose to feel ok
2 would be amazing.

I can't find any exercise I enjoy. And I've shit my metabolism to bits because of my job - sometimes I eat very very sporadically and sometimes
I also know alcohol is an issue calorie wise.

I've tried everything exercise wise.

I don't enjoy any of it. I'm low on iron and take supplements but I'm always tired and exercise feels like such an effort and a chore .

Hellen

Only 2 stone would be amazing. Well done you!!!
