To keep baby in sling for hours..

Is this ok or should the time a baby is kept in one be limited? Has anyone whose kids have now grown out off babywearing done this?

Sometimes it was literally the only way my LG would settle in the early days! But then other days she would barely be in it at all, in the long run its much nicer for them to be in the sling for a few hours than really unsettled and crying for a few hours :) and they’ll soon let you know when they want out!

I "wore" both of mine pretty much constantly until they could crawl (One crawled very early, one very late) and then off and on until they were about 2. No issues. They're strapping healthy kids now.

Is it a "proper" sling? I'd worry about babies hip development if they were kept in a non-ergonomic carrier for long periods

Jadefeather7 · 06/08/2019 14:15

It’s the close caboo that I’m using at the moment.

Good to know others have done the same and babies turned out ok!

I had a ring sling in the main. It was wonderful.

HarrietSchulenberg · 06/08/2019 14:20

I had a ring sling dor ds3 from 3 months. Had to practically prise him out of it, he loved being carried close and could sometimes be in it for hours if we were out. He's 12 now and his hips are just fine.

FusionChefGeoff · 06/08/2019 14:21

If it's a good sling they can be in for hours and hours if they are happy Smile

My DD was carried LOTS and at times would have spent all day in the sling apart from feeds eg on days out with her older brother.

She's a super confident and fiercely independent 4 year old now

PickettBowtruckles · 06/08/2019 14:22

My DD practically lived in the close caboo. I genuinely didn’t sleep for longer than an hour at a time for the first 2 weeks after giving birth, then DH tried the caboo while I tried to shower one day and she loved it and settled and actually slept for 3 hours in it (which she wouldn’t do in his arms, or anywhere except attached to my boob!) so she’d often spend time in there with daddy so I could rest, then once he was back at work she’d often be in there while I did the shopping/cleaning/anything I needed to do!

My DS was in the sling for up to 8 hours a day between the ages of 4 months and 18 months. He was on my back when he got too big. We both loved it.

15-week-old DD is a semi-permanent fixture in our close caboo. Pops her head out to nose around, sleeps when she wants, lets me get on with walking around aimlessly sometimes yells head off for no discernible reason. She comes out for feeds/nappy change/quick babble when we're out and about but otherwise can be in it for hours. Hasn't stopped her rolling; if anything I think all the nosy meerkatting from her high-up vantage point has helped strengthen her.

Absolutely fine. I didn’t even bother with a pram for DC3, she was in a sling for months then an ergo until she walked. She’s seven and absolutely fine.

Jadefeather7 · 06/08/2019 14:56

Those of you with close cabbie/ ring slings, do you find it easy to walk around a lot with them? I find that my shoulders or back start to hurt after a while. I did go to a sling library when I bought it so they could show me how to use it. Maybe I’m just not used to carrying weight. When he was a tiny newborn it was fine.

I used the CC and it did get harder as my DS got bigger (he's huge for his age), however I think yours might need adjusting so that the weight is spread more to your mid section and away from your shoulders. I couldn't carry him very long once he hit about 4/5 months though.

PipsM · 06/08/2019 15:06

I started with a close caboo then moved onto an integra when he was about 3 months having gone to the sling library to try different slings. He was a big baby though! I still front carry him now in the integra at 14 months, but will need to start back carrying soon I think. Use it as much as you need, it’s great for their core development.
