Jumpsuit for a child - yes or no?

Posting here for traffic.
Considering buying a jumpsuit as a gift for DF's 8 year old DD.
Are they a pain in the neck for parents - thinking when child needs loo, or would this be fine for a child of that age?
I have no kids, therefore, have no idea.
So, buy it, vote yes.
Don't buy, vote no.

Kids that age do their own thing in the toilet so perfectly fine.

GreenTulips · 06/08/2019 00:21

Depends where the thing fastens - back absolutely no way
Front - maybe

Wingedharpy · 06/08/2019 00:24

I think, the one I'm considering, doesn't fasten at all anywhere.
It seems to have an elasticated stretchy bodice, so I imagine you just climb into it.

I think it second son the child. When my daughter was 8 she refused to wear a jump suit because they were annoying. I however, would not have been phased is someone bought her one as a gift as long as she wouldn’t need help to get it on and off. I’d be annoyed if I constantly had to button and un Button for her every time she needed the toilet!

*depends on the child

Damn auntie correct

*auto correct

I give up Confused

My 8 year old has a few jumpsuits. Only one of them as buttons, on the shoulder. The others are just stretchy so you pull them down. She loves them and they are really easy to get on and off.

Hideous things for public toilets. Aside from that, they are quite nice.

My 8 daughter loves jumpsuits and manages no problem at all. Hers are mainly stretchy so easy in and out

JuneFromBethesda · 06/08/2019 00:32

I have 8yo and 11yo daughters, both love jumpsuits and look very cute in them! The younger one particularly likes them as they’re better than dresses for doing cartwheels in 😄

My 8 year-old dd has an M&S one with stretchy top. She loves it, makes her feel trendy without being too grown up looking and it is practical too. I'd say go for it.

dollydaydream114 · 06/08/2019 00:41

I'm pretty sure an eight-year-old can deal with a jumpsuit when they go to the loo so I'm sure it would be fine.

Jumpsuits were really trendy when I was that age in the 80s. I feel a bit ancient now.

Wingedharpy · 06/08/2019 00:53

I remember the 80's jumpsuits very well, dolly, which is why I posted the question!
I'm even more ancient than you though, as I wore several (not all at once, obvs) as an adult and remember the hassle of trying not to let the sleeves or bodice dip onto the wet public loo floor.
I just don't want to make her lovely parent's lives any more difficult than they already are.
Thanks for all contributions.
Much appreciated.
Off to do online shopping.

But the kids a book or a ball or a board game or a toy. Most 8 year olds are not impressed by clothes as a present. They’ll happily have clothes as well as the present, but unless the clothes have a picture of they’re favourite character, such as Batman, they’re really not that bothered.

Userzzzzz · 06/08/2019 05:30

Depends on the level of stretch. My 3 year old has some she can do herself as they are really stretchy. Someone gifted her one with fastenings that she can’t do herself so we don’t use it. Obviously an 8 year old will be able to do more but there are some ridiculous designs withbuttons at the back that I think would be hard even for an 8 year old.

Aprillygirl · 06/08/2019 05:43

Bit of a boring gift for an 8yr old OP. Get the kid something she can play with.

Skittlesandbeer · 06/08/2019 05:45

Depends on what season it’s intended for...

In summer months, no probs. If they can manage the fastenings, and understand not to let the whole thing pool at their feet (on dirty floors) then all good.

In winter it would be a hassle to pull jumpers/jackets up and off, then pull down the jumpsuit.

They do seem to be very popular amongst the 6-9 year olds around where I live.

crosspelican · 06/08/2019 05:45

My girls are 8 and 10 and both LOVE their jumpsuits.

The 8 year old's one just pulls down and the 10 year old's has thee poppers on one shoulder, which are slightly annoying. The plain pull down one with the elasticated waist is better.

THAT SAID they would both prefer a cool card game like Exploding Kittens and an adult to actually play it with them to a garment as a present.

Divebar · 06/08/2019 06:13

Yep I have a ridiculous one with buttons at the back which I bought for my own DD.... obviously had my brain switched off there. Other than that they’re often practical and cute. ( good for handstands and cartwheels as a pp said ) It’s also not a boring present depending on the kid... mine would probably enjoy it with a little handbag and hair clips .

Divebar · 06/08/2019 06:15

Exploding kittens also sounds fun though!

My girls absolutely love jumpsuits! (They also really appreciate clothes as gifts.) But it is a good idea to look at how they are fastened etc. My youngest is younger than the girl you are shopping for and has one jumpsuit that fastens with a zip and a tie belt. She decided not to wear it to a party recently as she didn't want to have to ask for help with the belt if she needed the loo. She also has dungarees which have slightly tricky fastening. She loves to wear them but does prefer to have me nearby if she is going to the loo as she can't always manage the fastening.
