To email someone regarding a job?

Hi all,

Hope everyone is having a lovely evening. I am job hunting - as some of you might already know from previous threads.
I have come across an ad that seems very interesting and after doing some research I think it is for a company we work with on a few projects.

I have got a good contact from this company. We speak on the phone/email regarding our mutual projects every 2 weeks or so. He is lovely and we definitely have friendly connections.

Am I being U for emailing him from my personal email, asking if they are recruiting and if so can I contact someone directly from the company?

Any thought/advise would be much appreciated.

Yes if you think you have relevant experience and would be suitable for the job

That sounds perfectly reasonable and professional to me, and if you already get on well and have a friendly working relationship, it's a good sign.

The only thing I would say that if it's a situation where the company is your client (for example, if you were a consultant and your current employer delivers consultancy work for this client) you might just want to check that there's nothing in your contract that prevents you from leaving to take a job with a client's business. I used to work in PR and we had clauses in our contracts that stated that, if we left our job, we were not allowed to accept an in-house role with any of our clients for 12 months.

Absolutely fine if no contractual issues, as dolly pointed out.

So you want to avoid the agency?

It’s worth asking, but it might not be the correct procedure.
