how to dispose of nappies

My neighbours below me have a baby who uses nappies. The soiled nappies go in nappy bags and are put in the dustbin for taking away by the dustbin men. However the dustbin men only come once a week and because it is hot weather the nappy bags are causing maggots. How can this be prevented?

Unless they use washable cloth nappies I don’t see that it can! They are bagging them appropriately, cuts to services aren’t their fault....

Nappies in nappy bags are not causing maggots

userxx · 04/08/2019 18:14

Only come once a week? Isn't that normal. I don't think you can do much, maybe throw some bleach in the bin.

In a lot of places collections are fortnightly so you're lucky

Yogurtcoveredricecake · 04/08/2019 18:17

Once a week is normal collection isn't it?! It's more likely to be food causing maggots than nappies I would have thought. The bin will need bleaching and washing out.

twelveeleven · 04/08/2019 18:18

Just put fly spray in the bin once a week

ineedaholidaynow121212 · 04/08/2019 18:18

It wont be the soiled nappies causing maggots 100%

FannyFeatures · 04/08/2019 18:18

Our wheelie bins are collected every 3 weeks, we don't use disposable nappies and our food waste goes in the garden waste bin desperately but we still get maggots.

Hot weather and an increase in flies mean it's pretty likely. Minging but harmless really.

MustardScreams · 04/08/2019 18:18

Nappies in nappy bags aren’t causing maggots. It’s food waste that does it.

What do you want them to do? Take every dirty nappy to the dump after each nappy change? I swear some people shouldn’t live where they have neighbours.

PumpkinP · 04/08/2019 18:19

If they are in nappy bags shouldn’t be causing maggots the only time I I got maggots was when I ran out and stupidly didn’t bag the nappy. Never made the mistake since. How often would you like them to empty the nbins

Jebuschristchocolatebar · 04/08/2019 18:19

Our bin gets collected once a month and is full of nappies and no maggots. Food waste causes maggots

FannyFeatures · 04/08/2019 18:20

*separately rather

SinkGirl · 04/08/2019 18:20

We have fortnightly collections, twins in nappies and no maggots. It’s probably not the nappies.

There really isn’t anything else they can do unless they keep the Nappies in a separate outdoor sealed bin and put them in at the last minute. That’s a lot to ask of new parents though 🤷‍♀️

dementedpixie · 04/08/2019 18:23

Double bag nappies and any food waste. My general waste is only collected every 3 weeks! Food/garden waste is every 2 weeks and we had terrible maggots last year.
