To complain to these neighbours?

Another neighbour thread from me, sorry!

Our neighbours a few doors down (but about a 5 minute walk away) moved in recently.

They have FIVE Great Danes.

They leave them outside for extended periods of time where all five of them bark for hours.

I can't leave our poor dog out for more than five minutes when they're barking as she barks back (and unlike some I realise other people find it very annoying!)

It's a beautiful Sunday, dh and I both have a rare Sunday off and want to spend it in our garden and on the beach (which is right below the dogs)

I want to go and ask them to please bring the dogs in when they're barking. Or ask them not to. Or walk them occasionally. Anything to. Stop. The. Incessant. Fucking. Barking.

DH says that as we called the police on our neighbours the other side a couple of weeks ago we absolutely can not complain as we'll be 'those neighbours'.

I'm at home all day most days so it's definitely driven me more crazy than him.

Aibu?

@MissConductUS I've also had many people recently congratulate me on being pregnant. I'm not l, I'm just fat. And given that we're now unlikely to have another it REALLY smarts.

Your dog barks and barks, but you have an issue with another owner whose dogs bark?

MissConductUS · 04/08/2019 20:02

@catofdoom a woman's reproductive status should really be off limits for casual conversation.

How old is your DS now and how's he doing?

Lolwhat · 04/08/2019 20:06

Dogs bark, that’s life

catofdoom · 04/08/2019 20:12

@Outsomnia I've said twice now that as soon as she starts to bark I stop her.

I just saw my closet neighbour and asked her if she ever heard our dog and she said 'never'. So do fuck off and find someone else to be a weird pedant with.

Please do not swear at me. Not nice and so unnecessary.

catofdoom · 04/08/2019 20:48

@MissConductUS shouldn't it?!

He's nearly 6 and he's doing great apart from not eating anything but bread and plain pasta which is driving me batty!

You have older ones right?

catofdoom · 04/08/2019 20:50

@Outsomnia no you being a belligerent, joy sucking Belinda is unnecessary. Grin

OP hope you are ok. You sound a tad unhinged. Must be the humidity and the heat or something. High Five!

catofdoom · 04/08/2019 20:54

I'm peachy thank you. Had a margarita and about to head off for swim call and a bbq. WineGlitterball

What's a "swim call" I need to be educated here obv!

catofdoom · 04/08/2019 21:03

Im not really sure. Someone shouts 'swim call' and everyone seems to run off toward the sea. I think I've got the main jist of it because I just follow!

I have a barker too Cat and like you I stop him. It's aeroplanes he barks at and we live on a flight path. Didn't mention that in his list of quirks in his rescue notes.

There is also a big house down the road with a collection of dogs that bark constantly when our. DDog barks back. He also barks at dogs in TV.

catofdoom · 04/08/2019 21:19

@Pieceofpurplesky they're funny buggers. Ours is half Pyrenees, quarter husky and quart retriever and I think they're all quite barky. She's a good lass though, when I tell her to stop she does.

She doesn't bark at aeroplanes thank god. We had one nearly land in our garden today!

@catofdoom I think people are having a go at you because they assume you're a bloody, uncultured Yank.

Mine are older. DS is 19 and home for the summer after his first year at uni in Boston (Dean's List!). DD is 17, looking at uni's and starting her last year of secondary school next month.

DS has always been an adventurous eater. DD on the other hand, only recently started expanding the list from pizza, chicken nuggets and french fries. I think what helped her turn the corner was DH asking her a few years ago what she planned on serving the guests at her wedding. Smile

Check with your neighborhood regulations. Most communities have a limit on number of pets (dogs and cats included) per residence. My community limit is 4. If your neighbors are over then they can be required to reduce the number of dogs they have.

MrsBobDylan · 04/08/2019 22:23

One of mine is a woofer and I do the same as you op, bring him in as soon as it starts.

I can only imagine the noise five Great Danes make. Is there anyone you can report the owners to for anti-social noise?

serialtester · 04/08/2019 22:36

Similar situation - have a woofer. Family moved in with 2 (gorgeous) GSD's that are outside woofing all the time! Answers on a postcard!

Parrakeet · 05/08/2019 00:18

Your other neighbours must be going mental as well? Get a few of them together to hash a plan?
