To feel bias when workplace investigator gather evidence that we agreed I would provide?

I'm being asked questions to help with an investigation.

  1. During the meeting, I was asked if there are any evidence to support my claims, and asked for me to produce this the following week.

However the investigator afterwards went out of his way to gather these himself. He can claim its for efficiency but my gut feel that there's something wrong somehow.

  1. This feeling that something is wrong is also added by the fact he mentioned on a separate point that he wanted to protect me against accusations of manipulation. But this wasn't even a point in the investigation so feel like it's his own pre determined view.

I know this probably needs someone familiar with employment law but am I over thinking this?

You're over thinking this. You've asked for the facts to be investigated and this investigator had gone out to collect the facts. This is all standard so far.

His interpretation of those facts may be different to yours.

Some Qs:

Are you a witness?
Or are you raising a grievance?
Have you been accused of misconduct?

If you're raising a grievance you'll have the option to appeal if he draws conclusions that you don't believe have properly considered the facts.

If you're accused of misconduct, then you'll have the option at a hearing to discuss the conclusions he made in the report based on this evidence.

If you're a witness then it's different as you won't have a copy of the outcome or final report. However you'll be given the opportunity to review the minutes from your meeting and you should make sure these are accurate before signing them.
