It's 10:30. AIBU to have told them to turn it down?

My neighbours are having a massive party in a relatively tiny house. So vehicles parked all over the street, can't get out of my driveway and so on. This happens on average a couple of times a month so not a rare occurance.

Their music is so loud it is shaking my house. Even with all the doors and windows closed, I can hear the beat and thumping of their music, really loud cheering and shouting.

I went over there to ask them to be a little more considerate and got a mouthful of abuse (they had obviously been drinking) about how it's still early, they're allowed to have a bit of fun on a Saturday night, and I'm a massive party pooper basically.

Every time they have one of these parties, DS has to come and sleep in my room as his room is closest to their garden and he can't sleep with all the noise. Even in my room which is furthest, it is still quite loud.

AIBU to have asked them quite politely to turn it down a bit? I don't mind them having parties or visitors, it's just that the noise is quite frankly unbearable, and from past experience usually lasts until 2 or 3 o clock in the morning. Am I a massive party pooper?

Call the noise team at the council

Pipandmum · 03/08/2019 22:46

11pm to 7am is considered the time things should quiet down. Start taking notes and report them. Tomorrow I’d have a word with them if you’re brave enough. Maybe get the support of other neighbours?

FanSpamTastic · 03/08/2019 22:48

If they are tenants then it is likely written in the t's and c's of their tenancy agreement that there should be no noise from x pm to y am.

I complained to the council last time this happened to me and they were actually really helpful. Never happened again.

Keep a noise diary, report it and see what happens, if it's a rental you could try the letting agency

millespadpuddy · 03/08/2019 23:10

Call the police???

MoomimWoomin · 03/08/2019 23:12

YANBU
Make sure you get up at 7am and start vacuuming the shared wall and cutting the grass Grin

I called the police on our old neighbours for the same thing once except it was 3am and we had a newborn plus I was post surgery. It was horrendous noise, I don't usually care but it was really bad.
The police said it's Friday night, people work all week and want to relax Confused
I said is it all laws that are cancelled on a Friday night or just the one about noise lol.
Anyway, hope they stop

I definitely don’t think YBU OP. If it was once in a while it would be acceptable but a couple of times a month is too much imo. They clearly have no thought or respect for you or other neighbours. There’s nothing worse than trying to sleep when there’s music and loud noise coming from a nearby neighbour.
I’d definitely go and speak to them about it tomorrow, failing that, put your music on full blast at 7am, see how they like being disturbed when they are trying to sleep!
