Aibu to report to Police? or is it one to stay clear of? I've just seen a young women involved in a road rage incident from my window. Roadworks mean the road narrows, and her (driver A) and the other driver (driver B) seemed to have an altercation over right of way. A was very verbally abusive, swearing and called B all sorts of names and then spat into B's car. A and B's windows were open, I didn't see if the spit made physical contact. I checked online and in theory spitting at somebody is assault?

I have the whole thing on CCTV and a description of A and her car reg. But, the area is very rough. A saw me observing and is clearly aggressive. A few weeks ago a neighbour got bricks thrown through the window for reporting youths for anti social behaviour.

I believe in having social responsibility, but is this one I should let go of? WWYD?

  • The CCTV from my house would also clearly show which house it came from due to positioning, thus identifying me if shown to A by Police.

Spitting is vile - absolutely disgusting and if that happened to me I would vomit rings round myself. And it is assault.

But given what you've said I would forget it. Had A punched B I might do something but spit, while gross, doesn't injure so I wouldn't get involved.

Do you have to declare that you have cctv footage? Can you just be a witness that gives a statement of the events though that’s I f the matter has even been reported to the police? Do you know if B has reported it?

Report to the police- you are correct when you say this is an assault- in fact no injury has to be sustained for it to be a common assault. I would report it and say you have CCTV but also make the police aware of your concerns, they will be able to help you. Either way, this 'lady' needs to learn that you can't go around being aggressive and violent and acting like a general twat, without facing some consequences x

And whilst spit doesn't injure, it is an absolutely vile act of aggression and disrespect. If she spat at a police officer she'd be getting nicked all day long.
