Just that really. He loves Disney, but will be be able to do enough? How long would you stay? Or wait til he's older? Got some time off next year and wondering whether to do this or not! Thanks!

Yabu - don't bother
Yanbu - yes take him!

Also meant she could nap without having to leave the park, and handy to defend your parade spot from others. 😉

avalanching · 03/08/2019 18:39

@MoreSlidingDoors I was thrilled to ditch the buggy at 3, never felt any desire to go back to it so the kids have just had to walk from the day we ditched it! They've never really whinged about walking, not sure why I wouldn't describe us as a particularly active family, not Pen y Fan types anyway lol. Would have been handy for carrying some stuff though I guess!

mumderland · 03/08/2019 18:47

We took our DS when he was 3.5 and he absolutely loved it. He still remembers everything we did. There were plenty of things for him to do, there is a lot of walking to it's best to take a cheap buggy. We also went in November as the light show started at 7 so he was still awake for it. I wouldn't go in summer mainly for that reason. Flight time was only half hour from Manchester which was a good length of time for him too. We stayed Monday - Friday. Can't wait to go again when DD is a little older!

icebearforpresident · 03/08/2019 19:18

We went in April when the kids were 3&5 and they loved it. Tons of stuff for them to do and even some of the rides I expected to be too big for them were fine (couldn’t get them off pirates of the Caribbean!).

If you can go during the week it will be quieter. We went Monday-Friday in the first week of the Easter holidays and on the Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday it was busy but the longest q was something like half an hour but you were constantly moving so the kids were fine. The Thursday was noticeably busier, loads of rides were 45minutes or longer and just getting around was more difficult. The weekends must be hellish.

We didn’t bother with a buggy and the kids were fine, the youngest wanted lifted on our shoulders once or twice a day but after 10minutes we would put her down and she was fine.

Top top: if you go buy some wrist bands you can write your details on just incase one of the kids gets lost. We found two lost kids on our first day, neither spoke English and there was no staff around. It really panicked me as I didn’t want to walk off with them. Thankfully their parents appeared pretty quickly but if we had been able to phone it would have been some much better.

We took our 4 year old to Disney in Florida. She absolutely loved it. She was completely star struck meeting the princesses and to our surprise loved the rides. She is quite small for her age and was just over 1m tall when we went and there was plenty for her to go on.

WorraLiberty · 03/08/2019 19:29

He'll be too knackered with all the walking

Why have you assumed that?

CrazyCatLady159 · 03/08/2019 19:31

Took my daughter when she was 4 - she loved it! Still talks about it now nearly 4 years later and we're going back this year (she doesn't know yet)
Loads for her to do, she loved the characters and all the rides - she even got on the tower of terror much to everyone's surprise and loved it!

iamyourequal · 03/08/2019 19:46

We took our son when he was almost 4 and he loved it. It’s a great experience for them. Lots of fun. I would do as others have said and take a light buggy with you. Our son was a good walker but they do get tired and it’s good for quick naps and storing drinks/snacks etc. Remember it is very expensive to eat/drink in the parks! Have a great time. Try and go term time (assuming your D.C. not st school yet!) if you can. The quieter the better. We went May which was fab. October was good and mild too.

catgirl1976 · 03/08/2019 19:56

We did and he loved it. Although the following day when he rode the carousel at the bottom of the Effiel tower, had an ice cream and went on a boat trip down the Seine he had a melt down and said it was the worst day of his life. So.....good luck 😂

hungryhippie · 03/08/2019 20:07

Took mine last year at 2 and 4 for 4 days and they loved it! So much so, we are going again this year!
Such a magical place.

stucknoue · 03/08/2019 20:12

It's good but it's expensive and very busy. If money isn't an issue it's great but if it will be a very rare trip save it for 6+ look online at the height limits

PeonyTruffle · 03/08/2019 20:20

100% yes
We took our DS at 2 and then at nearly 4 and he had a blast both times.
Remembers so much, especially the second trip

MoreSlidingDoors · 03/08/2019 20:25

It's good but it's expensive and very busy.

Doesn’t have to be either of those things.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 03/08/2019 20:51

I wouldn't bother in all honesty, not for a few more years. My daughter was 4 when we first took her to DisneyWorld. She found it very tiring and overwhelming and was too small to go on all the good stuff. It was also horribly hot and crowded which didn't help. We also went to Blackpool for a few days the same year and she said she preferred Blackpool! Wish I'd known that before and saved ourselves a few grand! We said we wouldn't bother going to Disney again for few more years as it seemed like a waste of money. Roll on another 3 years and she absolutely loved it. This time Disneyland Paris. Every child is different of course, but I felt it was a waste of money at 4 personally.

Adreamaday · 03/08/2019 20:51

It's a great age for Disneyland. Mine have all loved it at that age. It is not as overwhelming as the Florida parks.

avalanching · 03/08/2019 20:53

@DarklyDreamingDexter DLP is very different from Disney World, DLP is great for 4 year olds, it's not too big, all Disney hotels are in walking distance and you can easily get all the rides done in 3/4 days.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 03/08/2019 21:00

Fair point. Even getting to and from DisneyWorld park from a Disney hotel on the site was such a palava. Paris is a lot smaller scale. Might have been different if we'd gone there first.

Unihorn · 03/08/2019 21:05

We took DSD to Disneyland 3 times and Florida once by age 4, absolutely do it!

I also never understand the 'they don't remember it' arguments. I wasn't aware we only ever did things to remember them. I'm sure my 2 year won't remember that I take her to the park 5 days a week but I'm not going to sit in the house 24/7 because of it? Very odd attitude.

lavenderbluedilly · 03/08/2019 23:23

I’m with you on this. I blame the #makingmemories brigade Grin

moomin11 · 04/08/2019 07:36

We've just been with our 4 year old and she loved it, there were only a few rides she couldn't do and to be honest I was relieved by the look of them Shock We had an amazing time! We stayed 3 nights/4 days which was perfect.

Wiltshirelass2019 · 04/08/2019 07:41

My niece went when she was 4, she now doesn’t even remember going...

bakingcupcakes · 04/08/2019 07:44

We went when DS was 3 and he loved the rides. Unfortunately it rained for 2 of the 4 days we were there and that spoiled a lot of things but we went in November so the weather was always a risk.

We went to florida in February when he was 4.5 and he was blown away by it. He could go on lots and the weather was much better. He still talks about it and wants to go back. I took a buggy for both trips because it made running to beat the queues much easier! Grin

Wiltshirelass2019 · 04/08/2019 07:45

I think it’s a lot of money to spend on a child who won’t remember anything. There are so many other cheaper things you can do with a four year old. Perhaps wait till they are about 7? I went when I was 7 and remember it fondly x

Darcydashwood · 04/08/2019 07:50

We took our 4 and a half year old last month. We were planning until waiting until he was older and doing Florida, but I realised I wanted the experience of taking him when he was younger, so we did 4 days at DLP, and I'm glad we did. They can go on the majority of the rides and it's amazing seeing them meeting the characters and watching the parades and the fireworks. My tip would be stay at a Disney hotel if you can (the 'budget' Santa Fe 'Cars' themed one is perfectly fine) as it means it's easy to pop back for a chill out/nap in the afternoon. Plus you get to go into the Parks for 2 hours before other people and that's when you can do all the popular rides/meet the princesses without much queuing. And take a cheap buggy! My son hasn't used one for over a year but we used it on the last couple of days when he started to flag!

MaryShelley1818 · 04/08/2019 07:52

Definitely go!!!
We took DS in May this year at 17mths and he absolutely loved it, he did loads of rides and during his afternoon nap me and DH took turns to ride the big rides using Rider Switch. On our last day we gave him 2naps and stayed up to watch the fireworks. He sat on DH’s shoulders clapping his hands, laughing and gasping with delight. He was just so excited by everything. We’re taking him to WDW next year just before he turns 3 and can’t wait.
