Poked in the eye and it still hurts!

So DD full on poked me in the eye this morning with her thumb! She fell into me and I couldn't open my eye for around 10 minutes!

After that it didn't seem to bad but within 20 minutes it felt like there was something in my eye! Iv washed it out twice but it still hurts, even more so when I go outside!

Just covered my right eye and realised my left eye is now blurry 🥴

Will it get better? If not what do I do!

Sorry I know IABU posting here but didn't know were else to put it!

You need to get it checked. Either the opticians you're registered at or at A&E. It could be scratched and it'll be agony of it gets infected.

HJWT2 · 02/08/2019 18:06

@QuestionableMouse what will they do if its scratched? Its Friday night I'm 29 weeks pregnant and A&E is an hour away 😭

Totally get it checked out my DS did this and he'd managed to scratch my retina. Your GP should pop iodine drops in for eye and then if it is scratched it will show up they can then give you something for it. I think mine gave my a cream and antibiotics
I remember the pain being horrid.

Corneal abrasion - you definitely need to go to A&E to get it checked. Poor you. I had one last year and my sight got worse the day after, I was worried I was going to be permanently blinded.

I’m only mentioning this as it might be a worry you have over the next few days. Happy to say it healed fine with lots of eyedrops and a week later was good as new. Bloody painful though while it lasted!

VaperCut · 02/08/2019 18:13

I poked my eye with a pencil and it was absolute agony. Felt something was inside of it, couldn't blink properly or close my eyes for long, it was also watering excessively. Got through the night (somehow), and then made an emergency opticians appointment first thing the next morning.

They told me I had scratched it, bought some expensive eye drops to aid the healing. Took over a year before it was fully healed, as I'd suddenly became sensitive to light from that eye which then caused headaches. Nightmare.

Ahhh I am never helping DD put her shoes on again 😭 might see if urgent care is open and go there! What a pain in the ass! Thanks everyone 💖

@VaperCut Blimey!! That sounds awful!? How did you manage that 😬

Done this twice and it's bloody painful. Had drops and an eye patch.

Once on a broken radio aerial and once dds finger nail.

You need to get it checked.

PourMeAGlassOfMilk · 02/08/2019 18:17

The good news is that the skin on your eyeball repairs very quickly so while it is agony in the short term if it's ust a scratch it will probably feel normal within a day or 2. DS2 poked me in the eye badly when he was 1 so i speak from bitter, agonising experience. Best to get it seen if you can.

SpoonBlender · 02/08/2019 18:29

I managed to scratch my eye while power-tooling despite wearing goggles. Agony, A&E triaged me pretty quickly it was that bad. Got a good check over to make sure no splinters were left, anaesthetic drops, antibiotic drops, and three days later everything was right as rain.

So, A&E for you I'm afraid. Don't piss about with eyes.

HJWT2 · 02/08/2019 18:32

@SpoonBlender ah great! Will get DD to bed and go get it checked, it's definitely blurry 😬

SpoonBlender · 02/08/2019 18:43

Good luck! The blurriness is probably healing gunk (what would be scab in a dry location) since it came on after. The 'feeling like there's something in there' is probably just the scratch itself.
Remember to take some form of distraction with you to A&E, lucky it's pretty early but as a Friday night you might be in for a while :(

QuestionableMouse · 02/08/2019 18:51

Depending where you are there might be an eye hospital that you can go to. Worth a Google before you set off at least.

(there's on in Sunderland if you're anywhere close!)
