Hand foot and mouth disease , and going to soft play.

One of my children has hand foot and mouth disease, the other doesn’t. The one without it has a party to go to tomorrow at soft play I would be unreasonable to send a child exposed to hand foot and mouth to a party wouldn’t I ?
I’ve decided I won’t send but I’m feeling slightly guilted as it’s the first they have been invited to.
The child with hand foot and mouth has had rhe rashnfor three days a temperature for a day or so before that if that makes a difference.
Thanks

If they don’t have the rash by tomorrow they might have escaped it. There have been outbreaks at DDs’ nursery and they’ve never caught it despite it being highly contagious. It isn’t definite your other child will get it.

NannyR · 02/08/2019 13:01

NHS advice is that children with hand foot and mouth don't need to be excluded from school, nursery etc as long as they are feeling well enough to go so I would think that a well sibling would be fine to go to soft play.

Kizzdizz · 02/08/2019 13:01

The one who didn’t get it was under the weather at the start of the week but no rash or anything so I presumed it was unrelated.

Some kids get such a mild dose you would hardly know. It's probably been and gone.

Chickychoccyegg · 02/08/2019 15:35

I'd def send sibling to party if no sign of hfm tomorrow

MyDcAreMarvel · 02/08/2019 15:40

Of course you can send a sibling that doesn’t have HFM.

MeanMrMustardSeed · 02/08/2019 15:42

One of mine has it but the other two didn’t get it, so I would send them. It’s good to be cautious, but you can’t guard against everything, and this would be a bit ott, I think.

allpawsondeck · 02/08/2019 15:54

If there will be no very young babies at the party you can probably go for it. My DD had it when she was young and was very poorly with it, she’s still suffering the after effects now 9 months later! Also DH and I caught it and were very poorly with it (that was fun looking after poorly baby and preschooler when we could barely lift our heads off the pillow!) It’s a very common disease but can actually be quite nasty.

SleeperSloth · 02/08/2019 19:44

My daughter had this with no real affects however my nephew was hospitalised with it because he was so poorly and when I had it in January it was the worst illness I've ever experienced. Anti biotics did the trick in the end but I was nearly hospitalised as well.
I'd send my child only if I knew there were no very young babies or anyone with compromised immune system.x

TheMonaOgg · 02/08/2019 19:48

I wouldn't because my son, nephew and friends daughter all had it at the same time and it was horrible. My older son is on immune suppressant medication and I would worry about him too.

HiJenny35 · 02/08/2019 19:50

Personally no I wouldn't, lots of people are off on holiday and you know there's a good chance he's going to be carrying it.
