To ask for quick employment law advice? Worried!

My work raised some concerns about my performance. Not entirely unjustified but a bit overblown and there were others at fault too-no feed back or review of my work for two years. Despite asking!

Anyway, they've set me a 'test'. For some reason I'm not sure about this for some reason.

Anybody been through something like this?

I know nothing about employment law but am wondering if you can elaborate on 'test'? What sort of test? Are you wondering if they are allowed to do this?

footballmum · 02/08/2019 09:23

How long have you worked there OP?

If you are in the UK phone ACAS, they will be able to talk through everything and advise.

What sort of test? If its the Thomas International or Myers Briggs type it could be to assess the way you work and the type of person you are in order to improve things and identify where your strengths and weaknesses are

Two years and it's a test of my capabilities on the job- don't want to give much away, obviously

It could be a competency (skills based) test to see where your shortfalls are which would then be used to compile a PIP (performance improvement plan). This is then used as the basis for monitoring you. If you don't make the grade and have been provided with the necessary training etc then you could be fairly dismissed on the grounds of capability. Capability processes usually take around three months. Do you have more info about what the issue is as could then Advise further.

Do you have a union rep you could talk this through with? It sounds like they are putting you through a capability/performance procedure.

Completely agree with what @DorisDances says. Better for you if you engage and do the test. Seems preferable than being measured against another person’s subjective standards
