Pet sitting

What would you consider reasonable rate for pet sitting?

It is a Yorkshire terrier in my home for one week. The sitter is a friends 17 year old daughter who will be on break from college and isn’t working. I’ve said its fine for a friend or boyfriend to stay too. Very quiet girl that I trust with my pet & home.

I’ve suggested either €100 or €20 per night - is this too little?

Kennels are €30 a night but my dog does not like other dogs - she’s a rescue & has issues!

Look on a local pet sitting website for the going rate. Or ask at your vets as some of their staff may do it and would know. Round here, for cat sitting, it’s £30 to £35 per night, but this is London.

As it’s a 17 year old not a professional I think 20€ is fine.

Why would you charge a friend,if they supply food?

Trustedsitter · 02/08/2019 09:57

Hello
My wife and I have now house/pet sat for the last 3 years going to house to house. We do not charge . We love animals have over 30 5 stars reviews on a certain web site . There are hundreds of middle age couples and single people who now live by moving from house to house.
The only thing you got to provide is accomadation and pet food. We generally like to arrive a day b4 to get to know your routine so a spare bedroom is good if possible.
I don't know if I can mention the web site on this

Zero. Swap accommodation for pet sitting.

I use Trusted House Sitters, it is like £70 or £90 without a discount code to join for the year and I made my money back on the first sit and have had many amazing sitters, and some have become real regulars.

You do need to put a bit of upfront work into making your home and pet listing look good (but also accurate!).

That isn't a referral link or anything btw - it just takes you to the home page

The site name is Trustedhousesitters.com. if you use the code RAF77007 it will give you a 25% of membership. If you join i believe it only just under £100 a year and you can use it as long as you want. .You advertise your sit, sitters apply then you read their reviews and you chat with them on whatsapp and then pick your sitter. We now have over 15 families only joined the once then got to know us and now left the site and book us direct.

Trustedsitter · 02/08/2019 10:08

Discount code RAF77007. 25percent discount or just join they offering 20 percent without code

rookiemere · 02/08/2019 12:12

€20 per night is extremely fair. If it were me I'd prefer someone I know in the house.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 02/08/2019 12:55

I looked at this but couldn't see what happens if nobody wants your job. How long do you leave it before you give up and book paid-for alternatives etc?

Trustedsitter · 02/08/2019 13:36

hello
as long as you have given a long enough notice and don't want a sit like tomorrow .
you should get a sitter.
we took a risk on joining we thought it was a gamble but it worked out great.

Trustedsitter · 02/08/2019 13:43

take chance you could make great friends .
60 or 70 pounds a year or 20 pound a day . worth a risk. get a regular sitting . nearly ever sit we apply for have a least 3 or 4 sitters applying
Good luck .
remember Put in code RAF77007 get 25 percent discount

judithandholofernes · 02/08/2019 14:56

Thanks for the advice - I’d prefer someone that I know in our house. I offered both amounts and €100 was accepted - yay!
