My battery died, stop start motor, automatic, battery alone cost £180 quid!

AIBU to think cost is ridiculous

The stop/start batteries cost a fair bit more than the regular ones, alas. I had mine replaced a couple of months ago, on a seven year old car. Most garages quoted £200 or so, but I found one (National Tyres & Autocare) who did it for £120. It’s not the “official” make of battery but it seems to work fine.

We used to have a Chrysler Voyager with electric door, windows, mirrors, everything electric, but not a stop/start engine. About 3 years ago we paid £280 for a glass mat battery for it. This was the cheaper price from a local (trusted) garage compared with the price Chrysler quoted us.

When you need higher drain batteries they cost more.

Sounds about right to me Confused

Standard battery on the truck we use in the fields is £89 plus VAT and clearly we Fit it ourselves.

Fitting is super easy.

I'm shocked I paid £235.00

But you're paying for their knowledge and expertise too, not just the cost of parts.
A box dye hair colour costs less than a tenner but most people expect to pay upwards of £50 for a professional salon colour.
