SIL has recently has routine tests and found out she is positive TB. She won't know for 2 weeks yet if the disease is mild, contagious etc. She has always been an unwell person from other medical problems but told me she has been feeling unwell recently and told no one.

The problem is i am obviously terrified for her and upset but she has told me and DH and said she will not tell anyone else to worry them if she does definitely have it and she will just keep away from pregnant family members.
AIBU, to first of all be worried that me and DD have been around her for the past 7 years (not in a selfish way just worried), but also to be worried about the fact that i'm supposed to keep this hush when there's other family members with children even though they have also been around her i'm not sure with something like this if there's even any point in keeping away if she already has it? none of us have had TB injection as wasn't offered it at our ages.
SILS grandmother died of TB many moons ago.

I don't think it's that easy to catch if you are in good health and not living in overcrowded conditions but yes in your position I'd get you and the children tested to make sure you haven't picked it up.

I was vaccinated in school at the age of 7 as it was pretty rife in SE Asia at the time. I caused a major panic at my school back in the UK as I came up positive for it on the skin test as my mother had forgotten I'd been vaccinated!

First of all, go to your GP and explain that a relative that you and your dc spend a lot of time with has been diagnosed with TB. Explain that you are concerned for your and your dc's health. See what their professional opinion is. Take it from there.

I, too, would be conflicted about whether to keep this confidence. But if you will have more info in 2w, then it may be worth waiting. I doubt 2w will make much difference with a disease that progresses very slowly

We have one in hospital - its isolation and masks at all times.

When a colleague had it, those of us who sat closest to her had to have a test, but we were told the likelihood us catching it from her was minimal. We'd have had to have been in a confined space with her for a long period.

And we were all fine. But it was seen as a public health issue and HR had to report it and the nhs clinic sent us all appointments without having to see a GP first etc.
