In the quest to keep slim and get some vitamin D, I decided to swap gym sessions 5K runs for a few months now. I have now have to wake at least once in the night for a wee((which I have never done) don’t even mention sneezing. Again this was never an issue even post children. AIBU?

I found running strengthened mine as I was forced to clench as I ran 🤷‍♀️

Treaclepie19 · 31/07/2019 09:03

I hope not! I've been running for about 8 weeks now and haven't noticed it.
Could the waking in the night be because of fluid increase after running?

Lindormilk · 31/07/2019 09:48

Running for 8 yrs and having 3 kids ruined mine, not running.

hormonesorDHbeingadick · 31/07/2019 09:50

It’s been a lot warmer over the last few months - are you just drinking more?

orangeshoebox · 31/07/2019 09:53

see your gp.
sounds like you have a prolapse.
in that case high impact exercise is out.

QRCode · 31/07/2019 09:54

If you are not leaking when running, then you honestly have nothing to worry about. It could be worse!

AuntieStella · 31/07/2019 09:54

You are wrong to accredit this to running. Do not curtail exercise, always a bad idea

Pelvic floor exercises are for life. If you start displaying symptoms then start daily exercises at home (when you clean your teeth perhaps, or when waiting at red traffic lights). If that does not help, then seek a specialist physio.

Rainbunny · 31/07/2019 10:03

Anecdotally it's not the running, it's that you've had children. I have not had children but I've been running for over 15 years, marathons & half marathons and I have never had issues. My running partner however, who's run as much as me but has had two children, did develop this issue at some point after giving birth.

Gottoloveabagel · 31/07/2019 13:35

Running helped mine too!

edwinbear · 31/07/2019 15:25

Agree with @orangeshoebox. I had a prolapse repair in 2013, I'm now on a lifetime ban for running and lifting weights, my gynae was very specific about the damage that running can do to a prolapse - if that is what you have of course.

bee222 · 31/07/2019 16:04

It won't be anything to do with running

Zaphodsotherhead · 31/07/2019 16:51

I run, I've had five kids. Bladder and pelvic floor are fine when I run.

I sometimes need the loo in the night, but that's always been the case and depends on how much I drink. Not running.

Ponoka7 · 31/07/2019 17:30

If you tighten as you run, then it doesn't.

You should also tighten when you sneeze.

If you do start on pelvic floor exercises, you need to do them lying down and cough in between each cycle.

yikesanddang · 31/07/2019 17:54

Lol all these people staying categorically that is isn't anything to do with the running. Like they would know. OP is could be the running. It is known to be an issue for some women. It could be from having children. It could be from peri or menopause. It could be several things. No one on here is going to be able to categorically tell you.

BikeRunSki · 31/07/2019 17:57

More like running stresses an already weak bladder.

Oldermummy2019 · 31/07/2019 20:28

Thank you all for the advice, I should intensify my pelvic floor exercises. I am not intending on giving up exercise but to go back doing gym classes with more weights. My last child was over 3 years ago and there was no bladder issues, unless they are delayed(c/section)

It could be all the issues you suggested.Prolapse😢 never thought of that...
