How is this possible?

It’s outrageous

‘For this man’ it should say in the title

Firstly, I hope she is appropriately protected and safeguarded, and that she is able to access the long term psychological support I can imagine she may need.

Secondly, our prison system is broken and fails to rehabilitate, it just causes more damage. It is never going to succeed in rehabilitating people other than a few exceptions in its current set up. Six months or twenty months, he still would not have left prison "reformed".

Thirdly, prison is not for revenge, so sentences are not passed to facilitate the psychological healing or closure for victims. I doubt there is any sentence he could have served where she would have felt fine about his release, not after the horrific things he did to her.

According to the article. "Abigail Blake sustained a broken back and neck and was left permanently disabled after being attacked by Sebastian Swamy at their home in July 2017."

6 months in prison after giving someone life changing injuries is absolutely outrageous! How on earth is that even possible???

Ofallthebad · 30/07/2019 22:44

I just find it so sad that after the horrific injuries she suffered, after being left permanently disabled, after the psychological trauma she (and her children) have been subjected to...
She has to uproot from her home to a hotel because of this man. It’s an utter disgrace.

Disgusting. Sadly these ridiculous sentences seem to becoming more common.
The woman was on the news tonight, quite rightly terrified of what might happen.

Oh @thetimekeeper I don’t believe abusers this violent can ever be rehabilitated.
Obviously the victim is not being adequately safeguarded, as she states she doesn’t feel
Safe in her own home (understandably).
And surely prison is part punishment?
You have to live in a shitty environment with few privileges as a consequence of your terrible actions. For me they should throw away the key.
Did anyone read the bit where he threatened to kill her and bury her and have her children play football over her body in the garden?
