Elitist camping group

I have been introduced to an evangelical christian activity/camping holiday. It is for children and they take 2/3 boys and 1/3 girls - all children have to go to a top prep school.
Historically the man who set up the Trust who runs the hols has been accused of abuse on the camps.
He died and the trust did issue a statement after that to say they were investigating.
Anyway, my main issue is with the private prep thing . The reasons I have heard are mainly cost and also that the activities may be very glamorous and state children wouldn't be used to them.
However, we've also been told there are large bursaries available, although they are never taken up.
Aibu to think it's all a bit odd.....?

Wouldn't touch anything like that with a barge pole!

hipslikecinderella · 30/07/2019 21:46

They also said it's about 7 minutes per day of christian teaching.

Seems bizarre, but I guess how would you know when your child was there for a week what they are telling them.

Are you thinking of sending your child/ren?

hipslikecinderella · 30/07/2019 22:21

No, although it's all looks fun in the brochure I didn't feel right about it somehow.

Are you insane?

Is this for real?

hipslikecinderella · 30/07/2019 22:24

For real? Yes the camp exists if that's what you mean.

Yeah, because nothing says ‘glamour’ like Christian youth camp activities. Hmm

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 30/07/2019 22:25

Glamorous? While at Christian camp? Either tents and mud have changed since I last saw them or they are Mia-selling themselves!

hipslikecinderella · 30/07/2019 22:26

It's not quite sky diving but its looks fairly amazing tbh

Accommodation in a prep school mansion so no tents

You what now?
You'd have to be a complete idiot to fall for something like that.

PopCorney · 30/07/2019 22:29

Hell no

No

No

BubblesBubbly · 30/07/2019 22:30

Why is there an uneven split of boys/girls? Why is it not just 1st come 1st serve? Or 50/50? Are the dorms different sizes? Like the boys accommodation is bigger?

BubblesBubbly · 30/07/2019 22:31

Hell no 🤣

BubblesBubbly · 30/07/2019 22:31

Can you send a link?

hipslikecinderella · 30/07/2019 22:32

No. It used to be all boys but they let girls in - but they said 50/50 and the girls take over. Apaz.

Finfintytint · 30/07/2019 22:32

Evangelical Christianity, private schooling and a hint of child abuse?
Sounds about normal.

sleepylittlebunnies · 30/07/2019 22:32

Sounds more like a cult for grooming wealthy children, I’d steer well clear.

edwinbear · 30/07/2019 22:34

Aside from anything else, DC would be bored shitless stuck in a tiny group of the same kids for a camp. Sounds utterly bonkers.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 30/07/2019 22:35

but they said 50/50 and the girls take over.

Yes. That sounds like girls. Always dominating Male spaces Hmm

Lindy2 · 30/07/2019 22:39

No way on earth would I send my child to something like this - regardless of the activities.
Apart from the rather massive potential abuse issue it's just not the type of environment or people I would want my children to be involved in.
A scout camp with boys and girls from all backgrounds mucking in together having fun, would teach them one heck of a better life lesson.

NoSquirrels · 30/07/2019 22:42

Wuh?

Link to it. Doesn’t sound remotely real!

worriedaboutmygirl · 30/07/2019 22:46

It is real. A friend of mine's dd goes and she swears by it. It's not my cup of tea.

Lol at the 'girls take over'. In which fun scenario do girls take over from boys? I literally cannot think of one. Doing the washing up?
