to hate it when prices are not advertised?

I'm coming across this so much at the moment - partly because we're moving house so I'm looking at the prices of various different services.

Problem is, no bugger advertises their prices. I'm looking around intially to get an idea of what things will cost so we can budget them in - before paying for anything I will always cross reference suppliers to ensure I'm getting a fair price.
I don't want to have to contact 5+ different companies to get a quote, only to then have to fend off their endless "follow ups".
I'm actually more inclined to give a business custom if they advertise their prices, as it saves me having to worry about if I'm having to battle through a negotiation and hard sell.

Even for services that don't have a set price, it would be nice to be given a rough idea, or a range to work from.

I agree with you.
Mind, I like to see prices on things at car boot sales too - even if it is a starting price Smile

I thought this was going to be about shops - was going to say that if you have to ask, you can't afford it Grin

YANBU. Some services do provide rough ranges that they would expect an estimate to usually fall into, which is very helpful - you usually know before asking if your job is bigger or harder than average.

YANBU. This massively hacked me off when trying to find suppliers for our wedding, loads of places didn’t even hint at prices for fairly standard things that could easily have had a rate card. I did not use any of those people!

God yes. We're finally getting around to doing some work and I don't have hours during the working day to ring suppliers for prices. I need to be able to whittle through websites from my couch in the evening.
