Calories in Quorn sausage confusion

FairyFavour · 29/07/2019 18:19

I’m trying to work out the calories in a Quorn sausage. The packet says 2 sausages = 154 (typical value pan fried) it suggests cooking in 1tblsp oil. 1 tblsp oil = 120 calories.

Does that make each sausage 17 calories? It doesn’t make sense. Surely they should list the calorific value without adding anything Confused

I need a life Grin

The calorific content is for the sausages only, not the oil. They can't control how much oil you add, if you grill rather than fry, etc so the serving suggestion isn't included in the calorie count.

MashedSpud · 29/07/2019 18:21

I count them as 154 calories grilled or oven cooked. I’d rather have a loss than a gain calorie wise so I don’t go over my limit.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 29/07/2019 18:21

Also if you fry in a tblspn of oil you don't necessarily eat the whole amount...

FairyFavour · 29/07/2019 18:25

No! It says typical values as pan fried. Surely they are not 72 calories per sausage.

Of course they're 72calories per sausage... 15 calories is about what's in a handful of lettuce.

Actually on the Waitrose website it says they're 114 per sausage.

Use a few spritz of a 1calorie spray, a tbsp of oil is an insane amount

Nearlyfriyay987654 · 29/07/2019 18:31

198 calories per 100grams, 250grams = 6 sausages.

Nearlyfriyay987654 · 29/07/2019 18:33

82 calories a sausage, this is from their nurtional info from their website

FairyFavour · 29/07/2019 19:04

82! That’s more than with the Oil!

The calorie count doesn't include oil, the oil is only a suggestion, personally I don't think they need oil, certainly not that much.

H2OH20Everywhere · 29/07/2019 19:18

Here it states 155 kcal per 100g and 125 kcal for 2, so 62.5 each. That's without oil or anything added to them. (But different websites are giving different values).

YesQueen · 29/07/2019 19:18

82 calories is nothing, it's less than a bag of snack a jacks and similar to a banana!

PuppyMonkey · 29/07/2019 19:24

Linda McCartney veggie sausages are much nicer anyway.Grin

PunchandRudy · 29/07/2019 19:28

82 calories is nothing

The calories soon add up!

YesQueen · 29/07/2019 19:30

@PunchandRudy yes of course but I'm guessing as part of a meal, and even if you had three with a load of veg you're looking under 350 calories which is a small ish meal

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 29/07/2019 19:33

It won't count the oil. If you wanted to, you could pan fry in anything.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 29/07/2019 19:35

There are different kinds and some are more calorific than others!
I stick to the original ones because they are a calorie bargain.

PunchandRudy · 29/07/2019 19:43

yes of course but I'm guessing

Yes, yes you are.

It wasn't an accusatory tone of comment, BTW! OP may well be needing to add calories to meet requirements rather than have as few as possible to diet.

YesQueen · 29/07/2019 19:58

@PunchandRudy I think I was more surprised that OP thought that was a lot TBH!

FairyFavour · 29/07/2019 20:55

OP is definitely not needing to add calories. OP decided on sainsburys shroomdogs @55 cals a pop.
