Hello everyone
Wondering if anyone could shed some light for me 😀
I have been looking into being a foster Carer for as long as I can remember but in researching I have found out that if you have a dog( or certain breed of ) your dog will need to be assessed
I have a two year old Rottweiler she is incredibly friendly has the best temperament and has been around children of all ages her whole life I have never had any problems with her so my question is what is included in this assessment and who is it done by 😃

You could phone your council for advice

I work in social care and have visited many many children in foster homes, lots have had dogs. One had an absolutely enormous (but very gentle!) dog who honestly the child could’ve put a saddle on and rode if they had wanted it was so large! The only dog assessment I’ve ever been involved with was due to the dog previously biting. If the dog is friendly, no history of aggression and the child isn’t going to be left alone with it there shouldn’t be any problem :)

My mum has a Rottie and has been a foster carer for several years. There was an assessment initially and Mum was approved. I am sure it will be fine- go for it!

That’s amazing i am not worried about my dog being around children and she had never bitten anyone I trust my dog but of course I am not silly to leave her alone with a child as you just never no
but when researching it was saying that In assessment and they will pull the dogs tail and raise a hand to her to see her reaction which worried me a bit

Your local authority will give you plenty of information about this. It probably varies by area so we can't really help usefully.

Just to put it out there. Reverse your thinking and give consideration to whether your dog would be hurt by the child and how you would protect it. (Sounds awful but something you need to be aware of)
