To find it a bit odd for one homeowner to be responsible for all boundaries?

I put up a post a week or so ago regarding property boundaries as I was seeking to change one boundary.

I since found the conveyance from the council to the first owner which confirmed a few points including that I need to get permission from the council to make changes to the boundaries, which is a bit of a pain (and more expense) but it is what it is - hopefully just a box ticking exercise as half of the boundary is already a fence and I just want to make the rest into a fence (a rather messy hedge with leylandii and other conifers).

However the one thing I did find a bit odd is that the conveyance also shows that I am responsible for ALL the boundaries on both sides of my property? I thought the normal thing was for each neighbour to be responsible for one side? It's not a particular problem at the moment as one side is fine but has anyone come across this before?

I've only come across that if the house is right on the end. Ultimately one house is responsible for two sides. But not if its in between two houses.

No we are in a mid terrace house- almost bang in the middle of a row of houses.

I find it weird, but we are the same. I think it was because our house was built first (only a few months before the rest!)

it just means more cost for us, but at least we can do what we want with them!

We are jointly responsible 50:50 on all our boundaries. Fortunately all our neighbours are pleasant, like a tidy garden and have been able to share costs, so no issues. We've managed to agree on sturdy, low maintainence fencing so shouldn't have an issue for a good while for general wear and tear.

Although I have been known to cheer when a fence panel failed in a gale knowing that the neighbours would now reach their threshold to change them. We wanted to change them sooner before the garden became established while it would be less disturbance to our other works. They were happy with a vertical boundary.

Sudowoodo so if I am jointly responsible maybe that would show up on my neighbours conveyance in the same way? It is a row of ex local authority houses which are all now private.
