To have found this bloody attention seeking?

Have a new starter at work on a trial. She's a very hippy type and has been training with me all shift.

Asked her to do a simple job and she took ages doing it. It literally takes two minutes to do generally (open box of sauces, empty into tub, put box with remaining sauces away). I asked what was taking so long and she replied 'I have CDO. That's OCD to you but the letters are alphabetical order,.like they should be.'

Ugh. Is it just me or is that the most attention seeking thing ever?

She didn't include anything about OCD on her application which makes me think it hasn't been formally diagnosed. (Have a friend with actual OCD who has rituals he needs to do so I'm familiar with it.)

Nope. I don't. And how does deciding that someone is a 'hippy type' tell you anything about their personality? Or capacity for work?

Crispmonster123 · 29/07/2019 21:57

It was obviously a joke.

NeckPainChairSearch · 29/07/2019 22:24

Maybe it was a joke, but the OP keeps referring to this co-worker as a 'hippy type' and hasn't actually explained what she means by this. It hasn't stopped posters calling her a 'whiny, lazy twat' though.

Hi, just a note to say that OCD is an actual, serious condition that can and does ruin lives. It's not about being neat and organised but about having distressing, repetitive thoughts (obsessions) that can take over your ability to perform daily tasks. Sometimes people feel compelled to perform actions (compulsions) which may look to an outsider like they are being extra tidy or organised, but it is not enjoyable to the person with OCD. And this form of it, although the most visible, may not be the most common. OCD is definitely not a joke anyway, I have it and I and many the sufferers find the misconceptions and jokes very frustrating.

@bigshiplittleboat did you miss the part about my friend? I know OCD and the impact it can have which is why I'm so peeved by her comment.

By hippy type I meant dreamy, wears clothes that are artfully decorated, obsessed with organic produce... I never said once that it was a bad thing and I've never called her any names.

I simply said her comment was attention seeking.

@QuestionableMouse sorry, my comment wasn't aimed at you - just seen some common misconceptions about OCD on this thread. Apologies, I'm not normally such a mental health evangelist

Thanks. Sorry if I snapped. I think we're coming from the same point.
