AIBU to ask what words you'd ban?

JRM's style guide made me think about this. Top of my list would be "hun", followed closely by "Crimbo" and "hubby".

What words would you love never to have to read or hear again?

Oh yes, and definitely hun, can’t stand being called this.

I reckon that over-officious autocorrects which insist on capitalising anything that could conceivably be a proper noun (prime examples being Male and May on mine) should do the same with Hun.

oh and "spud" I absolutely hate that word

If I was King of the World, I would ban Women and Children's' words which end in "ie" or "y".

Role...it's not a role, it's a fucking job. Life is not a sodding 3 act play with your supremely special self as the superstar, so it's a fucking job. The only notable exception is if you are an actual bloody actor.

Setting...it's not a setting, it is nursery/childminder/nanny/school.
Setting, it's a child, not a sodding washing machine.
Raising children, also not part of a play or movie.

I have an almost irrational hatred for the use of proper and setting in this context. It is just so fucking pretentious.

@Jemima232 Yes! When did people start saying ‘role’ instead of job? And why? It sets my teeth on edge, I hear it so frequently these days.

Same as many others, stupid new slang that doesn’t make sense, like ‘on fleek’. I absolutely loathe ‘nom’, makes me feel sick because it makes me think of noisy eaters who gobble their food up (looking at you, father) instead of eating politely. I also hate meal, browse, portion, topic/topped/atop (no clue why those sounds offend me) and tender.

I'd ban the word customer unless it's used to refer to somebody who is buying something in a shop. Train companies are the worst for this. What's wrong with "passenger"?

^ This. I can (and occasionally do) swear like a trooper but this word will never pass my lips (!) I find it INCREDIBLY offensive - not really sure why this and not others though!
