Spending money Europe

I realise this is a ' how long is a piece of string ' question. However I was wondering if I could ask for your experiences.

We are going to Budapest next week. How much per day would you say we need for a family of 3? We would probably eat out for a two course meal with drinks and have lunch at a fast food type place.

I am saying 200 Euros. Husband says 100 Euros and that Budapest is cheap.

Shall we split the difference.

Also ugh to the exchange rate.

Take the 150/day and a credit card. I always end up spending way more than I think I will in Spain and I go most years so you’d think I’d know.

www.budapest.com/city_guide/general_information/money_prices_costs.en.html?sid=dbvgkeks0uuf1tkjpc32fkugb7

Some information here about average costs and also that there are lots of cash machines and most restaurants accept cards.

So the first thing I'd do is look up how much the cards you already have charge for foreign exchange and if it's free/cheap, just spend on the cards you have, rather than taking currency, which you'll pay to exchange and then to change back if you have any left over. And then you don't really have to worry about how much to take, just look for cheaper places any time that you feel like you're spending more than you anticipated.

Thanks I have the Halifax clarity but wanted to take some cash and set a budget.

The currency is the forint, so the Euro exchange rate isn't a factor.

Most of the tourist attractions allow you to book in advance online, so that's a good way to budget. I'd check out the places you'd like to eat and drink and go from there. £100 per day should be plenty if you're mainly eating in cheap places and doing mainstream touristy stuff, £200 will allow you to splurge on fancier restaurants and excursions.
