Heard something scary. Should I call police?

Was watching telly in bed and heard arguing outside. I live in a town centre so it happens often but I turned TV down as it sounded aggresive.

Sounded like a young couple (18ish) arguing and swearing at each other in the car park bend my row of terraces. Eventaully she yelled something and then I heard a loud bang followed by the bloke screaming "SHUT THE FUCK UP". Then it went silent, didn't hear anything else from either of them.

Would you call the police? I suspect a neighbout will anyway but I don't know what to do. Don't want to go out there.

Definitely call them. Its the silence that's worrying after an argument.

SleepingStandingUp · 27/07/2019 01:00

Call, she could be lying u a puddle of blood and he's pissed off.

wheresthewine36 · 27/07/2019 01:01

Call them now.

stayathomer · 27/07/2019 01:01

Did you OP? Hope you're okay ( and the girl too)

Shadow1234 · 27/07/2019 01:04

I would. She could be laying out there unconscious. (especially as it suddenly went silent). Sadly, the police have so much on their plate these days, so may not even be able to attend straight away, but at least you would be doing the right thing by ringing them.

MinecraftMother · 27/07/2019 01:06

Just give them a call OP. Don't fret, this is literally what they are here for.
Well done for caring x

louisvootin · 27/07/2019 01:11

did you call op?

HartleyHoots · 27/07/2019 01:13

The bloke from next door went out into thd car park behind our terraces. I opened the window and shouted down to him asking if he'd heard it.

His wife has phoned and he's gone into car park to have a look.

Oh gosh how scary. Wonder what the bang was ? Fair play to you all checking it out.

Cosentyx · 27/07/2019 01:23

Good! That poor young woman Joanne Yates, people heard a woman scream at least once and no one called the police. I can't help wondering if someone had perhaps she'd have been saved. Ditto Moira Jones in Glasgow. People also heard her scream.

HartleyHoots · 27/07/2019 01:27

I think the issue is people hear stuff and assume someone else will have called 999 but if everyone thinks that then no help occurs.

Though next door have called 999 and one of them went out to check things out, thankfully. Would have called otherwise. It's v busy tonight, I hear sirens going down the main road (centre of very big town) every couple of minutes. So I don't know how long it'll be before they get here.

I hear arguments a lot but it was the loud bang then the silence that was chilling.

I hope everything is okay

HennyPennyHorror · 27/07/2019 01:34

Definitely worth a call. I've called when hearing odd noises before. Better safe than sorry!

Excited101 · 27/07/2019 01:48

I called the police on neighbours arguing once, all was fine but the police said the prioritise domestic disputes surprisingly highly. Hope alls ok op.

Wellmet · 27/07/2019 01:54

I hope it turns out to be nothing. Glad someone has called for help though.

AddictedToRadley · 27/07/2019 02:00

You did the right thing by ensuring someone called the police. Better to call and be nothing than not to call and it be something. Is there any chance the bang could’ve been a car/van door slamming in anger after the argument before they drove off? Hope it’s something that simple and that it was just a row and nothing physical.

Foreverlexicon · 27/07/2019 06:29

Ex police call handler here - AWAYS call for something like this. As P.P said, domestics are a priority. This would be a blue light job as anything could be happening.

katewhinesalot · 27/07/2019 06:41

The op has taken a long time to update if it was nothing.

AddictedToRadley · 27/07/2019 06:59

Any updates OP?

DogsWorld · 27/07/2019 07:25

It's called the bystander effect. It's studied in psychology.

I hope she was okay OP! Well done for checking that they'd been called.

billybagpuss · 27/07/2019 07:41

Was everything ok op?

tmh88 · 27/07/2019 08:04

Gosh stuff like this really scares me. Dread my own and nieces/nephews being old enough to go out and drink! It just always seems different to how it use to be now a days! Hope you are ok OP and the woman involved.

Bobbiepin · 27/07/2019 08:12

@DogsWorld is spot on. Read about Kitty Genovese, chilling story.

Hope everything/everyone is ok OP.

magicstar1 · 27/07/2019 08:18

I hope it turned out to be nothing.
I heard a couple arguing on the street near my house once. He pushed her against the wall and threatened to put his cigarette out on her eyeball! I rang the local Gardai immediately and by the time I’d thrown on a pair of bottoms and run down the stairs, the squad car was pulling up and they nabbed him. The worst part was that there was a block of apartments facing with loads of people hanging out windows watching... not one of them called the police - I asked and I was the only one.

FelixFelicis6 · 27/07/2019 08:20

Hope all ok
