To think climate change is already affecting our lives?

Have had an awful day with the heatwave, I have a new baby who has been roasting and is not having it at all. Ended up spending over an hour with her in Asda because of the aircon, as it is awful at home. There were quite a few other mothers in their with young babies.

Dsis works in A&E and has posted on Facebook about how it was heaving today with heatwave related ailments. Everybody I speak to about it seems miserable and they are avoiding going out. All of the houses on my street have curtains and blinds shut.

Summer when I was growing up (late 80s through to 2000) was never like this. It was always bloody cold and wet and we'd get a couple of sunny days in the whole of the Summer holidays. The occasional heatwaves we did have rarely seemed to exceed 30 degrees IIRC and everyone was delighted by them, I remember spontaneous trips to the beach to enjoy "The few hours of nice weather we'll get this year.". Heatwaves used to be good. Now we dread them and retreat into our houses.

I don't see nearly as much rain as I used to. It used to rain nearly every day, as I remember. This year there was a period where I found myself thinking "I actually can't remember the last time it rained.". My nephew is 11 months and last time we saw him we went out to a park and it rained, and Dsis said "He's not used to rain. We take him out most days but he's not really had this before." People joke about my city (Manchester) raining constantly but those jokes seem outdated now.

Am I going mad or are things actually changing this rapidly?

I think it's a combination of knowing more, it being in the public consciousness, more, especially this last year and that we are now seeing more record braking temperatures

I desperately want the government (all of them) to take it seriously and act now.

I don't know how old you are but my English and Scots summers in the 70's were long, hot, dry and dusty 1949, 1959 and 1976 were belters

I'm not arguing against global warming, but farmers were growing crops in Greenland from the mid 950s until the 1200s, when the climate cooled. Radio carbon dating of midden heaps indicate that arable crops, which cannot be grown now because its too cold/not sunny enough, were grown in Orkney.

The "warmest day since records began" is but a blip in human history. Climate doesn't stay the same. A lot of historical records imply that it used to be much warmer this far north and that we have actually been in quite a cool period for the last 800 years or so.

That doesn't mean we shouldn't be cutting emissions, plastics, etc., just that we need to have a sense of perspective.
