I need some reliable contraception. Ideally something that reduces period symptoms.

I get migraines so I can’t take the pill apparently (according to my dr).

Any experiences, advice gratefully received!

I've had the implant twice, bled both times for two months then off for a month then two months etc 🙄
Now on the pill (this one you can take with migraines as I also get them) I think it's cerazette, I have only been on it for two months and bled for a week at the start, now onto my second period and have bled for 4 weeks straight so far ☹️
I am terrified of the thought of having the coil I just don't know what to do

Thanks so much to everyone for sharing their experiences - which have been very helpful indeed!

I will certainly look into mini pill and mirena coil...

And good luck to anyone who is still trying to get something that works for them!

Another vote for Mirena here.

Virtually no period - so no period cramps. Also it’s clearly not messed about with my natural hormones. I get stupidly hungry 2 days before my period (which is now a tiny bit of spotting)

I tried various pills when I was a teenager-early 20s. The pill generally used to make me feel nauseous so I stopped taking it, swallowing a tablet would virtually give me instant stomach cramps and a strong urge to throw up. it also ruined my cycle. Other than that it was fine to begin with.

I switched to the contraceptive injection. At the start it was awful, think 3 months of menses/breakthrough bleeding! It has now settled down and is a virtually perfect/hassle
free method of contraception, however I am absolutely dreading the day when I come off of it and go through the withdrawal period!

browzingss · 25/07/2019 23:25

Forgot to add, the injection has stopped my periods.

I use the contraceptive patch it’s brilliant, just looks like a plaster on your hip, change it once a week and it’s water proof. Since getting it my period a are the same time every month, are quite light (used to be very heavy) and no cramps anymore.

I suffer from terrible migraines and was on the mini pill & still fell pregnant. Now i have the inplant & its amazing! After a few weeks or random bleeding my periods completely stopped (unless i'm under alot of stress i tend to bleed) and it cleared up my skin good. It works for 3 years and i feel it works best for me!

TriciaH87 · 26/07/2019 00:46

I have been on cerelle for about 3 years now was cerazette before that. So mini pill for last 9 years but have found my weight continually creeps up despite being active joining gym etc. The plus side has been not having a period since I had my son 9 years ago. Now however dp thinks its worth looking at other options as I'm not happy that despite doing more my weight still creeps up about 3 to 4lb a year. The problem is this rules out all hormonal options and due to family history only really leaves the copper coil. But I hate the idea of the coil and also worry the risk of infection may lead to return of pre cervical cancer cells. Not even sure it would be an option anyway as they removed a large section. Mini pill is good but you have to monitor it closely.

Pinktinker · 26/07/2019 02:53

The implant was absolutely vile, I’d never recommend that although I know some people love it. I completely lost my libido, dried up down below and bled the entire time it was in. I ended up crying and pleading to have it removed after a few months, it was horrendous.

IgotApositive · 26/07/2019 03:16

Mini pill - gave me horrendous headaches, bled randomly and I got pregnant while on it.
Implant - made me bleed constantly.
Injection - bled for 19 days honestly thought I was going to die, i also have a weird symptom of extreme tiredness on it and I got pregnant on it!

Hoping when I've given birth they will sterilize me

Sparklfairy · 26/07/2019 03:24

browzingss I came off the injection after 9 years a few months ago. Periods have just returned, everything normal, no unpredictable bleeding or awful PMS symptoms (which I used to have) or withdrawal. Considering going back on it just to go back to no periods (forgotten what a PITA they are!!) but worried about the messy unpredictable bleeding when you first start on it.

Ella1980 · 26/07/2019 03:41

Just a word of warning...the mini pill is great as a rule but I fell pregnant on it, even with absolutely 100% correct use!! Sadly I miscarried 😢
