To think Parliament has never been more important, but to worry that they won’t rise to the challenge

Does Johnson’s government still have DUP support?

Regardless of this, I am really hoping that possible Tory rebels and the rest of Parliament can unite to vote down anything Johnson and his awful cabinet put forward Sad.

Is this how it works, or can the government override on some things?

How long can Johnson and co last? Hopefully not long?

Hopefully the no deal issue will bring things to a head quite quickly.

Yes thankfully the Conservative and Unionist Party still have a small majority when supported by the DUP

MyFokMarelize · 25/07/2019 06:16

I hope and pray that he crashes and burns sooner rather than later. My fear is that the majority of his cabinet are in it for themselves and their own glory rather than the common good. There are still decent honest politicians but they seem to have lost their voices lately.

crankysaurus · 25/07/2019 06:29

I have a (small) hope that the PM and cabinet will receive a bit more opposition from their own back benches but equally won't be surprised if they stay quiet.

I fear things are going to be a bit shit for a bit but hope there will be enough challenge, and by that I'm not counting on the leader of the opposition terribly highly.

Too much party and personal gain above country. Sorry, not feeling very optimistic this morning.

They can’t vote about anything if BJ prorogues (suspends) parliament to force a no deal by default

Haven’t they just taken preemptive measures to stop that happening?

Why don’t you try getting behind the country instead of always whinging.
We live in a democracy. Be glad in ten years time you can have the option to vote again, and whoever wins the vote will be respected. But for now ffs, stop moaning and get behind the country. Doing the country down is very 1970s don’t you know.

MyFokMarelize · 25/07/2019 07:07

Yes - let's all get behind something we don't believe in and can see the huge risks in - because, well - Get Behind the Country at all costs! Street parties! Blitz spirit! Your Country Needs You! Wave the Union Jack and all will be well.
What stunted thinking this 'Get behind the country' stuff if. Pure Johnson-speak for jivvying up the hard-of-thinking whilst he fucks your future.

Because they're running the country into the ground and not actually listening to what people want: going for a no deal which very few people actually want (and isn't what the referendum asked).

Because the new "prime minister" is a joke and was voted for by a tiny percentage of the population I.e. not Democratic

MaxNormal · 25/07/2019 07:08

@urbanlife I would rather shit in my own hands and clap than get behind that showed of cunts.

wherearemychickens · 25/07/2019 07:10

I don't know how I'm supposed to get behind the people currently leading the country when the course of action they are on will mean we won't have our country anymore. This government is a gift to Indyref2, and will probably lead to a United Ireland, if not the return of the Troubles.

wherearemychickens · 25/07/2019 07:12

And there are people in this government now who have been sacked already for serious offences - they shouldn't be anywhere near the levers of power!

BarbariansMum · 25/07/2019 07:16

Getting "behind the country" isn't exactly the same as "getting behind the government " though is it urban? I'm not a rich fascist, they dont represent me and I really doubt they have my best interests at heart. So supporting them doesn't seem very patriotic to me?

Flyingquestion · 25/07/2019 07:59

It’s okay - urbanlife is also derailing the Priti Patel thread.

However, Parliament is the very essence of democracy (or should be), and votes happen more than every 10 years.
