AIBU not to understand why people prefer hand washing their cars rather than use an automatic car wash?

And by that I mean the teams of people in supermarket car parks.
I've tried both, automatic machines seem cheaper, quicker and just as good?
(I never get the inside cleaned...do that myself at home where I'm not in danger of judgement over how many empty crisp packets there are stuffed in the glove box!)

Because I'm too tight to pay for something I'm perfectly capable of doing myself

I was coming on to post that my teenager will literally spend all of one weekend day "cleaning" our car. That is a full wash, dry, polish, all dashboards cleaned & polished, full window clean, full hoovering inside; everything removable removed from the car and cleaned (that was how I found out after 12 years of ownership that I had a spare wheel. God did my garage laugh (nicely) at me!) ), tyres re-blacked and polished. It costs me a fortune in products, they get well grumpy when I dare to use the car and it gets dusty (how dare it!). The teenager loves doing this but none of you could afford the cleaning rates!

Then I read the Op further and realised that you didnt want to know any of this. But I am not allowed to use an automatic car wash. And that is why. My teenager is the best!

I only use the jet wash on my car and do it myself every time. Those guys with sponges aren't getting near my paintwork, and the machine you drive through? Awful for scratching paintwork and missing chunks of car
