To go to the beach on my own at 40 weeks pregnant during heatwave?

SenoraSurf · 24/07/2019 09:07

I live in a coastal town and usually spend the entire summer holidays down the seafront. Currently waiting to have DC1 and know my summer will very soon be changing for ever!

I want to go to the beach but don't know if I'm being completely ridiculous. It's a 15 minutes walk from my house to the sandy end of the beach (half that to the pebbled end).

I'm a loner (mostly by choice) and DH and family are all at work so don't have anybody to go with.

Any tips to keep me occupied/comfortable down there? Or should I be boring and stay inside with the doggies and drain yet another long boring day away.

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and been several times to the beach in South East Asia. Sat in the shade, had a couple of swims and felt great! I've had a few funny looks as it isn't the done thing here but i couldn't careless! My arse hardly fits in my bikini these days but nobody harpooned me yet!

Buddytheelf85 · 24/07/2019 10:41

I’m 40 weeks too OP. I’d definitely be at the beach if I lived near it. I’m still going to the pool and going on walks though. We can’t stay under house arrest!

Buddytheelf85 · 24/07/2019 10:42

Be aware it won't be dignified having your waters break on a public beach and being collected by ambulance but if you are prepared for that then go for it.

Eh?! You see the oddest things on MN sometimes.

JammieCodger · 24/07/2019 10:44

I was going for hour long bike rides at 41 weeks.

Of course you should go to the beach. Enjoy your last few days of freedom!

paap1975 · 24/07/2019 10:46

Isn't the general rule in pregnancy that if you feel up to it, you should do it? I say go for it!

Dragonglass · 24/07/2019 10:46

it's supposed to be into the 30s today

Not everywhere. We are looking at 20 at most today.

Go for it OP. I am at my most relaxed and peaceful when by the sea.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 24/07/2019 10:46

Op . Go for it .
DM goes to her local beach at times , either to sit on the beach with a book or a walk along the pier . DM is 76 and I am glad she is doing this as we lost DD in May . Gets her out and nobody bats an eyelid .
Enjoy your day

Teddyreddy · 24/07/2019 10:48

No reason not to go other than the heat today. I'd take at least 2 or 3 times as much drink as you'd usually take - dehydration happens much more quickly when pregnant and the consequences are much more serious. The heat can also make you feel ill much more quickly than when not pregnant, so it might be worth having a lower threshold for going home again as well.

MaverickSnoopy · 24/07/2019 10:49

What do you want to do at the beach that you cant do at home?

Yes OP totally THIS. Can you not get a large tray of water and have a splash in it?! It's totally the same! 😂 Madness. I mean who has the beach in their house?!

If that's what you want to do then you should do it. It won't be too long until you have a baby and you just might not feel up to it.

Take your notes and more than you think you need to drink. Make sure you dress sensibly with a wide brimmed hat and sun cream and you'll be fine....so long as you eat plenty of ice cream. Enjoy!

SpreadsheetQueen · 24/07/2019 10:56

Sounds like the best possible idea, there should be more breeze at the beach and you can waddle into the sea to cool off. DD was late and I was still walking more than 15 mins away from home when several days overdue, you don't have to sit at home constantly once you're 40 weeks.
Obviously be careful about overheating, but enjoy!

NeverGotMyPuppy · 24/07/2019 11:08

Go for it! I was still doing 6 mile walks when I was 41 weeks.

Bin85 · 24/07/2019 11:14

Yes do it
Maybe have taxi fare home with you just in case

Why not get someone to take your photo somewhere with a lovely background and then repeat each year with your child / children ?

Drum2018 · 24/07/2019 11:19

Go. Stay hydrated. It will be lovely to float in the water to take the pressure off your legs and cool you down. I'm sure there will be plenty of sunbathers there who can assist if you do go into labour. If you have a girl you can call her Ariel.

mistermagpie · 24/07/2019 11:27

Go! A fifteen minute walk is nothing really and both my children were born the evening after long walks, so it might even get things moving.

thaegumathteth · 24/07/2019 11:29

If you want to and feel up to it then yeah go for it. When I was heavily pregnant in summer if someone had asked if I fancied a walk to the beach and back I’d have probably cried so I admire your stamina!

Darkstar4855 · 24/07/2019 11:30

Do it! I’ve been taking my 6mo down to the seafront regularly as the breeze makes it nice and cool.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 24/07/2019 11:32

I'm hoping your are already there it sounds like a great way to spend your morning. As others have said as long as you stay hydrated you will be absolutely fine. I'm sure all the odd posts are only because they wish they lived 15 minutes walk from the beach. Grin

Poetryinaction · 24/07/2019 11:33

What? I would go for sure. 15min walk. A day on the beach alone sounds like bliss. However I am also in Cornwall and it ain't that hot today.

Ribrabrob · 24/07/2019 11:41

This thread is so funny, I'm loving the responses! Yes OP, what can't you do in your house that you can do at the beach? Hmm Haha. Mumsnet is so bizarre Grin

Hope you decided to go and have a nice time at the beach OP!

themouldneverbotheredmeanyway · 24/07/2019 11:48

I wouldn't in the heat wave, but I'd happily go on Friday when it is cooler.

I'm pregnant and I'm overheating and feeling dizzy walking anywhere in this heat.

fourquenelles · 24/07/2019 11:49

Take a brolly to act as a parasol, plenty of water and mobile. Have a fabulous day!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 24/07/2019 11:50

Stay hydrated and take your phone! Enjoy yourself - why not?

Dontforgetyourbrolly · 24/07/2019 11:52

I would have 100 % done this if ds had been a summer baby . Alas he was February and 10 days late .... I was stir crazy and painted the kitchen instead !
Have a lovely day and don't forget your notes

MordredsOrrery · 24/07/2019 11:52

Absolutely go and have a lovely day Smile
