To stop seeing an acupuncturist because they talk too much?

Went for acupuncture yesterday to a new person. I've previously seen two other acupuncturists and each session has always been very peaceful, and I've entered a bit of a "tranced" / blissed-out state during the session.

My appointment yesterday involved a lot of sharing my medical history, which is fine, but when we got to the actual needles bit she wouldn't shut up! Talked constantly throughout, asking me lots of inane questions which I clearly was supposed to ask her back. I tried slowing my answers, I stopped asking her questions back, but she wasn't getting the hint. Eventually I just closed my eyes and she asked if I was ok - I said yes, that I usually get into a trance-like state during acupuncture and she stopped the treatment soon after, saying I'd had enough.

I'd paid for an extra-long session as it was the first, but I left more than 20 minutes early, after very little needle work.

Is it unreasonable of me just not to go back? I am feeling a bit pissed off that my session was cut short, that she wasn't picking up that I didn't want to chat, and I didn't think I got much / any benefit from it.

That sounds bloody annoying. YANBU. I had this once with a masseur. In the end I pretended to snore Blush

Thanks! She seemed really nice so I wondered whether she had a reason for it.

YANBU
I stopped going to a woman who does massage and reflexology when she kept wanting to talk about a medical condition I have, as her DP was being tested for the same condition. That is not relaxing!

I would definitely query why your appointment was so much shorter than the session you actually booked. That's akin to taking money out of your purse!
Also feedback about the too much talking, especially, after all the hints you dropped. I've changed therapists over the years for just this reason, the session is for your benefit, not for them to chat their way through it. They should be working at concentrating on you.
Mine leaves me alone in silence once the needles are in, or even does supplementary massage of an area without needles.

I leave feeling I am walking on air, and I sleep so well that night. Plus it usually solves the issue I have presented with.

I'm a big fan of acupuncture, but it's not cheap, and I would not tolerate the unprofessionalism you've described. Find a new one OP, good luck.

@TigerJoy

YANBU.

I am sure they are meant to 'pop the needles in' and then leave you for a while. Not sit there yabbering. Confused

Can't you tell whoever runs the joint, that next time you don't want the person staying with you and bending your ear for the whole session next time???

TigerJoy · 24/07/2019 14:39

Thanks all. I'll definitely cancel the next appointment.

I don't usually avoid conflict but I would feel horribly embarrassed giving this feedback, but I will consider it. The place I went to was all independent contractors, so no "boss" to feedback to, which would be much easier!

I'm glad to hear I wasn't being unreasonable to expect silence - it really did ruin the session for me, and I did end up feeling short-changed.

I'd feedback on it for sure. Or would have queried before leaving.
