Neighbours dog

As I walked past the side of my neighbours house a dog pops out through a gap in his hedge, blocking my way. I start to cross the street and it follows me. I speed up and it speeds up. I yell for neighbour (who I can't see at this point as he is in the front garden) to get the dog away from me.

He does recall the dog but then immediately a second dog runs across the road to me. I am scared now and scream and start running. Neighbour recalls this dog and then yells at me that the dog is the 'sweetest dog in the world' and only ran at me because I was acting crazy.

I know we are a nation of dog lovers but AIBU to expect the neighbour to keep his dogs within the confines of his property?

No you’re not a drama queen at all. A dog suddenly chasing you is frightening even for a dog lover! Your neighbour should secure his dogs.

Dogs shouldn't be allowed onto roads/footpaths unless accompanied but you were being reactive by yelling. It wasn't hurting you, it just surprised you. Get help for your phobia, or perhaps there's an element of artistic licence here...

The dogs should be kept safely in the garden so they don't get hurt or lost or stolen.
Also for the safety of others.
As an adult you should not have run into the road, you could have caused an rtc.
Screaming will not help anyone.
There again, encouraging children to be scared of dogs doesn't help either pp........

I have a friend who was attacked as a child by a dog. She would be fucking petrified if a dog ran at her in the street. Yes dog owners should have control of their dogs. I have several but I'm still wary of strange dogs. Yanbu

The thing is - I doubt he wants his dogs running around in the road either. Generally when dogs leave the front garden they are “escaping” as opposed to being “allowed” out.

I absolutely love dogs.
I'm sorry you had this experience. Your neighbour was well out of order and should have apologised.
