To still use buggy for 3 year old DD?

DD goes to nursery four days per week. She turned 3 in April.

We recently bought her a scooter, which she loves. But at the end of the day at pick up she often says she is too tired to ride it and we have tears and tantrums and her demanding to be carried all the way home.(Due to our working patterns, 90% of the time DH does drop off and I do pick up so it's me who gets the pleasure of this).

The walk home from nursery is just under half a mile and there is no way I can carry DD, my work bag and the scooter so the journey home is torturous.(Just to add to the fun I'm also pregnant!)

I think we should reintroduce the buggy. DH is adamant that DD is too old and points out that very few of her peers use a buggy now, they all walk or use scooters (and he is right).

I honestly don't know if I am being unreasonable or not to think that it's ok to keep using the buggy for a while longer. Is she too old? AIBU?

No I wouldn't. How about a trike that you can push?

Yes - in this world that is dying due to people consuming so so much more than they need - buy some plastic to push your child in to avoid using the contraption you already own that you can push your child in.

EssentialHummus · 01/08/2019 19:41

mum you can buy a trike quite easily second hand or in a charity shop.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 01/08/2019 20:08

But why would you when you already have a perfectly good buggy?

Obviously if a trike is something that they want / you think is a good idea then go for it. But this is along the lines of “oooh no - not a buggy - too old for a buggy - but this other contraption that does exactly the same thing is absolutely fine.”

Use the buggy op! It's you who has to manage the situation. Why can't she just ride when she's tired? She's only little x

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 ffs

poppermost · 01/08/2019 21:20

Exactly! They're still sitting on a trike and being pushed along! What a bizarre stigma some people have attached to buggies.

My DP's 3.5 year old child is still in a pushchair (and still uses a dummy* (and has the dummy teeth to prove it)) because her mother insists on it. I personally stopped using one at 3 years for my own child, but I'd use it at theme parks/long days out for example. The point is that it's up to you, everyone's situation is different. If it makes your pregnant life easier, use it.

  • added for no reason other than it bugs me because the poor child has dummy teeth and doesn't speak and it's not her fault.

Dd was 3 2 weeks ago. We didn’t use the pushchair on holiday to Cornwall but we do use it to go shopping etc into the main city. She will happily walk for 5-10mins then demand to go on daddy’s shoulders which he constantly does! It drives me insane lol

We went to an event a half hour walk away and took buggy for 4.5 year old at the weekend and we even sat on it at the festival ourselves! It would have been ridiculous calling a taxi as we would have had to walk part of the way anyway. DS had been on feet all day, so was tired. No regrets and really dont care what people think as it was a one-off. There have been other times where I wish I took buggy for older child and had baby in sling, as it was a nightmare pushing a screaming baby, wanting to get home, but older DS was dragging his feet at every opportunity.

You're pregnant, it's hot, just take the buggy and ignore the judgy people. Your health comes before their opinions.

Older DS has even had a ride in younger DS's pram when we were caught short when he was tired (with younger ds in a sling, so not together!) and people just seemed to laugh at it, so not sure why it's any different for a buggy.
