I was bitten about 3 days ago I think, and it was incredibly itchy... now it looks like this. Not pretty! It's not hot or painful or anything, but what on earth has done this to my leg?!

To wonder what the heck has bitten me?!

Mosquito is a likely candidate.

gamerchick · 23/07/2019 18:10

Horsefly?

Blandford Fly?

TomHagenMakesMyBosomTremble · 23/07/2019 18:12

I'd guess a mosquito.

MingingInTheRain · 23/07/2019 18:13

Horsefly

Strunderthuck · 23/07/2019 18:16

@SmellbowSpaceBowl blimey, is everything equipped with sabre teeth this year or what?!

I'd say horse fly as I get the same reaction

Basketofkittens · 23/07/2019 18:20

I was bitten in Paris over Easter and I had a bite like that which left a bruise that’s only just faded! Guessing it was a mosquito or horse fly?!

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 23/07/2019 18:22

That one looks like a horsefly - their bites are huge and itchy.

Keep it cool, take antihistamines/bite cream and DON'T SCRATCH IT. Easier said than done, I know but it will be over much faster if you can leave it alone.

elprup · 23/07/2019 18:22

Looks like a horsefly to me too. I was bitten by one of these recently and had to take a course of antibiotics! They're really nasty things.

Strunderthuck · 23/07/2019 18:26

@FineWordsForAPorcupine we're about three days too late for not scratching... promise not to do it any more though!

Bloody horseflies, then!

Looks like a horsefly from the many bites ive dealt with

timeforawine · 23/07/2019 18:32

Looks like horsefly, little bastards Angry

billybagpuss · 23/07/2019 18:33

Horsefly, evil little bastards, make wasps look like heavenly angels.

AllInADay · 23/07/2019 18:36

Horsefly. It has the characteristic three points. They actually tear your flesh with their mandibles. An anti-histamine cream will do the trick. It may leave a bit of a scar for a while. I have suffered 6 horsefly bites this summer alone.

FrogFairy · 23/07/2019 18:39

I get like that with gnat bites.

Starts with a hard, angry red lump and eventually fades into a bruise.

Laiste · 23/07/2019 18:41

Sorry for the length of this: I'm not sure about horse fly. When i got bitten by one of those (and i know it was one as i slapped it off me in time to see it on the floor) it felt like someone had stuck a lit cigarette against my skin. My friend has been bitten by one too and says exactly the same. Did it really hurt when you got the bite OP?

DH and i got bitten a couple of months ago in a local park. Both thought it was mozzy bites. Both scratched and itched the bites for a day or so. Then the bites turned into what you've got OP. Mine became a blister like thing with a big red ring around it. It stayed painfully itchy for a week and got bigger. I nearly went for ABs. It took 4 weeks to disappear. Still got a little scar. During that time there was a piece in the local paper about a lot of people getting bitten in the park by something 'orrible which usually is only found near water. Advice was to get ABs as some just weren't healing properly at all. Keep an eye on it OP.

Strunderthuck · 23/07/2019 19:01

@Laiste No, I don't usually remember being bitten, so maybe it is something similar to what bit you and not a horsefly. I'll definitely keep an eye on it.

Anyone else looking forward to the cooler, less bug-ridden weather?!
