To say "No" to unsupervised camping trip for 13 year old?

13 year old DC has asked permission to go camping with his friends, in a farmer's field. It seems the plan is to set up camp without permission from the farmer, under the cover of darkness.

Other parents have said yes. AIBU to say no? I have said no, but DC is making me feel like the worst parent in the world, and the ONLY one who has said no (thought I doubt I am actually the only one.)

WWYD?

As someone above said there is a lot of rural crime, farmers keep an eye out and will be extremely unamused think big dogs and shot guns

There will be drink, drugs, more drink. Possibility of setting field on fire with disposable BBQ if it is a wheat field that has been cut.

Not good on any level, he sounds an overindulged little darling

catinboots99 · 23/07/2019 16:18

@leckford that's a bit unfair seeing as OP has said no!

Yeahnahmum · 23/07/2019 16:20

" but all my friends parents have said yes" said all teenagers

Seriously op. Say no.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 23/07/2019 16:23

Harvesting has already started and they’re out late doing it so as long as he doesn’t mind being combined, go ahead.

No way! As a teen I camped on my friends farm with her parent's permission. They forgot to tell the gamekeeper who arrived in the middle of the night with a large dog and a gun. It was terrifying and we had permission to be there!

Just a big 'NO'

heath48 · 23/07/2019 16:35

No way!!!

@leckford
“he sounds an overindulged little darling”

How do you draw that conclusion??

Bin85 · 23/07/2019 18:15

How do you know it's all boys?

CacenCrunch · 23/07/2019 18:24

No way! I have a 13 year old boy, and he won't be going camping anywhere with a group of friends and no adults. They are not old enough to stay out all night unsupervised.

saffy1234 · 23/07/2019 18:26

I would say no too
What is wrong with these other parents?!

NameChangerAmI · 23/07/2019 21:20

Can't quite work out why he's an over indulged little darling from my post Confused.

Thanks everyone.

When he told me that all the world and his dog had permission, I said I needed to read the messages on his phone. Some did actually have permission from parents, but there were quite a few messages from his friends saying they couldn't go.

That would not be happening. Even with permission.
