To be issued off with Specsavers

Took DS2 [12] to have an eye test as he said he couldn't see the board from the back of the class.

Was told that because his annual test isnt due until 15th August, if his prescription hasn't changed, we would be charged £25. They said it was an NHS charge not a Specsavers one.

I've had a google and can't find anything to confirm this.

Anyone had anything similar?

No and if you pick up a brochure there is usually a voucher fir a free test anyway.

This is right. My daughter needs her prescription changed around every 6 months as her eyes keep changing. We are always told that the NHS only pay for one child eye test per year and if her eyes haven't changed when we request the test we will be charged. We are with Boots opticians. Its the NHS rules.

Sirzy · 23/07/2019 12:06

I think that’s standard.

Unless their is a medical reason you get one free NhS eye test a year.

Oopsy41 · 23/07/2019 12:08

This happened with my daughter but I explained that her prescription has obviously changed as she can't see in her current glasses. The optician authorised the test so we didn't pay anything

NoBaggyPants · 23/07/2019 12:11

Yes, it's correct, and the free test voucher isn't valid, there's some clause on it that covers this situation.

As they've said, you won't be charged if there is a change.

No. we did the same with DS (also 12) on Sunday. His test isn't due until January. They said they could only do a test early with a valid reason for the NHS, but no charge.

cranstonmanor · 23/07/2019 12:26

So what's the problem? It sounds that you are convinced that his prescription has changed anyway.

sugarbum · 23/07/2019 12:26

sorry just seen its only one eye test per year. DS1 hasn't had one for 18 months which is why no charge was issued for us

Surely it's summer hols now and the 15th August isn't far away just wait till then?
