To want the tv remote some times

Dh always decides what we watch. He would never even ask if I want to watch something. Just puts on what he chooses.
If he goes away to do something he will ask for the remote as soon as he comes in.
If I say I'm watching something he will keep asking me what it is.

AIBU to think I should chose what we watch without 1000 questions every now and then?

And you let him? why?

Habit I think.

Watch what you want and ignore him.

Two TVs, two remotes, two living areas or one in the bedroom, one in the living area.

Only way. Then everyone is happy. But he sounds a bit selfish to me.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 23/07/2019 11:34

DH tried this. I told him to stop it and took the remote control for the evening.
I pointed out that we both have equal rights to chose what we watch so common sense and compromise are needed.

My dh used to come in and change the channel on me to randomly flip through what else was on. Me: how is it relevant what else is on when I am already watching THIS.

I couldn't cope with this. Ok, so my DP tends to keep the remote (partly because otherwise I'll lose it down the side of the sofa!) but he'll always ask if I want to watch something. He also goes through the listings of an evening and highlight anything he thinks I'll want to watch, as well as what he wants to watch, and lets my choice take precendence (though I'll argue against it sometimes).

Who pays the TV bills? My DH is a pain for doing this. If I 'dare' to watch one of my programmes he will constantly ask questions about it to annoy me so I just pause it to answer. Eventually he gets the message that the more he asks the longer it will take for me to actually watch the programme. He ended up putting a DVD on last night 'as there is nothing on'. Yes, dear, nothing you want to watch but plenty I want to watch.

I'm getting more and more feisty when it comes to the telly though as the bills are paid equally between us

My ex used to come in and flip through channels when I was watching something and then say "there's nothing on" and try to switch it off.

There is, actually, I'm watching it or trying to before you started interfering! Angry

He needs to work on sharing, I say this as a total remote hogger myself. It's taken some time but now we have a much more balanced evening watching tv.

We've also installed a tv in the kitchen, so if I happen to be out there making dinner then I won't come in the living room and get stroppy because I want to watch one of my soaps. Dh often goes inthe kitchen to watch sport that I can't stand (not cricket or rugby though, I like watching them).

Aah yet another reason I love being single! My ex just assumed he would decide what we watched. Sometime we did agree but we often watched mostly crap he liked. If I chose something, he’d moan or sneer.

Now I get to watch strictly with the kids, and woman-centred sitcoms late at night. Never watched this stuff when I was with ex, it just wasn’t worth the huffing and puffing.
