Insomnia is a pain in the arse

I came to bed at 10, because I’m tired.

I nodded off for not even half an hour, now I’m wide awake.

This isn’t unusual but I’m now pretty fed up with it.

Another poster got me thinking earlier about possible symptoms and is 41 too early for perimenopause?

I tick off all the symptoms, apart from the periods as I’ve got a mirena coil in.

So am I too young or is this normal?

I’m guessing I need to go get some bloods done, oh and apart from sleeping tablets any ideas on how I can get back to sleep 💤

I feel your pain. I have no helpful tips unfortunately; just wanted to commiserate

GodDammitAmy · 23/07/2019 01:23

Nothing to add because I'm too bloody tired but yep. Peri wide awake here too.

cheeseislife8 · 23/07/2019 01:24

I'm here too. No suggestions unfortunately, and no experiences of perimenopause, but I agree that insomnia is utterly shit!

YesQueen · 23/07/2019 01:31

Wide awake because I'm SO hot Angry

I have Melatonin.

Dp goes to the US a lot and he brings me back a stash.

I have over 2 years supply.

Otherwise something like Melissa Dreams is good.

You can get 2 mg slow acting Melatonin prescribed here but it doesn’t do a thing.

Oliversmumsarmy · 23/07/2019 01:41

Should say it doesn’t do a thing for me.

You are in NO way too young for peri-menopause. I started around that she. HRT literally changed my life. No more insomnia, hot flushes, anxiety, etc. It is also very important in keeping your bones strong. Talk to your go as soon as possible. There is no reason to suffer like this.

This is a really informative article...

*Time. Not "she", ffs.

Insomnia is an absolute bastard. I have twin toddlers and no matter how exhausted I am at the end of the day, my mind lights up like fucking Christmas and I’ve been sleeping on the settee for two months because I can’t fall asleep until 3/4am and just pass out. Coffee is my best friend... sorry for the swearing but going through a particularly rough patch of insomnia and my head hurts Blush

KarenBeck · 23/07/2019 01:54

Yep, it's blooming annoying. I can't get to sleep until 3 or 4 am then knackered the next day. Can doze off with over the counter Sominex but don't want to use them every night.

Chickenwings85 · 23/07/2019 02:00

I have the same problem with sleeping.
I've recently been doing a breathing technique which seems to be helping.
Get yourself comfy in bed, close your eyes and breath in to the count of 6, hold it for 6 seconds and breath out to the count of 6. Repeat until you're asleep.

Goinglive · 23/07/2019 06:02

I have never slept well. Even when I was a child. Approaching 40 now and it's no better. I have tried everything, but finally had to admit this is just who I am.

I have had a couple of all nighters recently where I haven't managed to drop off once, which is new. I've been wondering about peri menopause.

LittleKitty1985 · 23/07/2019 06:57

The thing that works SO well for me is to choose a category (fruit, countries, whatever) and then go through the alphabet in my mind, trying to think of an example for each letter (Apple, banana, cherry, etc). I almost always fall asleep before I reach the end of the alphabet. Worth a try?

Left without Melatonin I can usually manage between 1.5 - 4 hours per night.

My worry is that lack of sleep can lead to dementia in later years.

Occasionally I have 8 hours and I feel on top of the world.

If I could get 8 hours every night I could get so much more done

mummmy2017 · 23/07/2019 09:02

I used to not sleep and watched YouTube entitled stories they make me smile, now I just set them off on low when I want to sleep, it bored me so much I am asleep before the end of the video.
