to let children be naked?

We’ve got a big splash pad in the garden and my 18 month old is running about naked. My 6 year old has stripped and is happily starkers - that’s ok, right?

I’ve lost all perspective!

On holiday abroad recently there were lots of naked children on the beach, not so many from UK but lots of other nationalities. I think its fine, my two ds used to do this in the paddling pool.

Merryoldgoat · 22/07/2019 19:17

The splash pad is great btw - I’m going in tomorrow (not naked(.

Just don't forget suncream and a hat.

longearedbat · 22/07/2019 19:37

I always used to look forward to a summer cloudburst on a hot and steamy day when I was a child , running about naked and screaming with joy in pouring rain was wonderful. It's a shame when you get to the age when you begin to feel self conscious about your naked body.

Siameasy · 22/07/2019 19:44

I think it’s fine to be naked - I imagine they get prudish at a certain age? So long as the child is happy it’s fine

PJMasksGhekko · 22/07/2019 19:45

I've just ordered a splash pad, thanks Op Grin

Wibblewobble99 · 22/07/2019 19:53

DD spends her life stripping off, especially in the garden and especially if she sees her paddling pool. DP is a police officer and is waiting for the day he gets a call about the naked toddler waving at buses as they go past (high wall only double deckers can see over)

birdonawire1 · 22/07/2019 19:58

Ds aged 6 is always naked. Sigh.....

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 22/07/2019 20:04

I'd insist on Sun cream though as it's skin that doesn't normally get exposed so might burn easier.

Merryoldgoat · 22/07/2019 20:05

Absolutely they will sun cream - they didn’t today as they didn’t go out until after dinner (after 5).

Rest of the week they’ll be smothered.

Proseccoinamug · 22/07/2019 20:44

I wouldn’t but it’s more about their bare bums all over the place than prudishness.

Proseccoinamug · 22/07/2019 20:46

Next door’s two year old got in our paddling pool naked last week and my 8 year old wouldn’t get in it again afterwards due to poo germs. I can understand her point of view!

Damntheman · 22/07/2019 21:35

Totally fine. My 6 year old has spent the last 2 weeks naked in the garden.

Orangeballon · 22/07/2019 21:38

Yes, it’s good for the body to get a bit of air about it, children should be free to run naked in the garden.

GibbonLover · 22/07/2019 21:43

Isn't it a rotten state of affairs when we have to double check things like this...YANBU, they won't be able to do it forever. I wish I could run around naked in this heat!

Prosecco 'Poo germs'! - I feel your DD is a future MNer!

BeanBag7 · 23/07/2019 06:55

@Proseccoinamug
"Poo germs" would be there whether the child is naked or not. A swimming costume doesnt stop water from getting on your body does it!

crisscrosscranky · 23/07/2019 07:02

My 2 year old has been naked for most of the last few weeks as have most of her friends who've been round to play in the garden.

Proseccoinamug · 23/07/2019 07:15

No, but it stops the surface of the pool / toys etc coming into direct contact with kids’ naked butts!

Dd probably is a future mumsnetter 😂

Merryoldgoat · 23/07/2019 08:34

Poo germs? They’re pretty geeky generally - we’ll take the risk!

Thanks all for the reassurance.

OP posts:
Merryoldgoat · 23/07/2019 08:34

Germy, not geeky.

My ds2 loves being naked - always has. I let him in our very private back garden but at 8 that's the only place he's allowed!

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 23/07/2019 18:10

DD(5) is charging around our garden starkers RIGHT NOW. Having left poo germs on the sofa. TBF, our house is 97% poo germs at the moment, thanks to toilet training.

gamerchick · 23/07/2019 18:14

I don't know, depends on who can see into your garden.

I didn't, we had a nonce out the back who would stand and wank at his bedroom window when the kids were out playing.

He's gone now but mine are too old for that sort of stuff.

Maybe stand at the bedroom windows and see if you can see into any gardens.
