Please help - 20 week anomaly scan

GiveMeHope103 · 22/07/2019 17:28

I had my anomaly scan today and am so beside myself. Everything came out fine except towards the end when the specialist measured the femurs she said she was quite concerned as it is short and bowed and less than the 5th percentile. She wants to scan again in two weeks but was talking about an amniocentesis and dwarfism and I'm just so scared and worried. Sad
Sorry I posted In the pregnancy topic but I know aibu gets more traffic.

I haven't seen the update, was everything ok? Thinking of you. X

GiveMeHope103 · 02/08/2019 16:24

justhaving thank you for thinking of me. We had the diagnoses confirmed this Wednesday and the baby seemed to be in a much worse state. We opted for a tfmr and my doctor did the surgery on Wednesday. It was traumatic for us. He further did an extra on the baby after surgery which revealed that the baby had osteogenesis imperfecta of which was so severe. His poor ribs, arms , and various bones were fractured. He wouldnt have survived birth. So we are also dealing with that blow.
I'm just trying to take each hour as it comes. The hospital has already provided us with many counseling sessions and appointments with genetic counselors when we are ready.
I had an hysterotomy, similar to a caesarean so in alot of pain. Thanks again for thinking of me you lovely ladies .X

I’m so sorry to hear your news OP 💐

Take your pain meds by the clock rather than when you need them, it helps keep on top of the pain, and peppermint tea/capsules help enormously if you have any discomfort from trapped wind (very common after abdominal surgery).

Your son knew nothing but love for all of his days, I'm very sorry they could not have numbered more than they did Flowers

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I believe there is a thread for those who have had a tfmr where you may find support from those who will (sadly) have an understanding of what you're going through.
Un-mumsnetty hugs to you. X

I am so sorry. Just get a lot of rest and remember the baby in whatever ways you both choose to do.

It sounds a good idea to have genetic tests next time or in advance of next time to check if the two of ou have some gene combination which might have led to this and you might be able to reduce chances of it happening with the next baby too eg screen out embryos with it in advance.

So so sorryFlowers

Impatienceismyvirtue · 02/08/2019 20:53

When I read your OP, my heart dropped. It was the same news I was given in February at our 20-week scan, and sadly further scans revealed a type of skeletal dysplasia which is non-survivable. We also opted for a TFMR. I’m so so sorry for what you have been through. If you would like to speak to someone who has recently been through the same thing, please just inbox me.

I'm so sorry to hear this OP. It's such a horrible thing to go through. We went through the same (but for different reasons) three years ago and it was the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. But it will get easier eventually. I'm sending you good vibes, and if you ever want to chat please feel free to message me. Flowers
